Is there any reason to be happy the Yankees traded for Vernon Wells?
Throughout his career, Vernon Wells has been a beacon of inconsistency. But lately, he's been terrible. What can the Yankees use as justification for paying $13 million for the outfielder for the next two seasons? His Spring Training stats? His new swing? Both are reaches, to say the least.

Cano wants ten year megadeal
While fantasies of trading Alex Rodriguez elsewhere have dominated the collective mind in the wake of the Yankees’ disappointing exit from the playoffs, the biggest long term financial concern for Brian Cashman right now is the status of Robinson Cano. The Yankees’ best player has a $15 million option for 2013 that the team will undoubtedly pick up, but after that he’s eligible for free agency, and could be hitting the open market as a cream of the crop player at a time when more teams than... -

How about that Ichiro!
When the New York Yankees acquired Ichiro Suzuki from the Seattle Mariners in a trade, I wrote here that the trade was a smart move and could even be a brilliant move. As I stated there and in future posts, if Ichiro could hit .300 for the Yankees, he would certainly help them. That initial post provoked a strong negative comment which really shook the confidence in what I had written. Yes, folks, I do read your comments and they are not taken lightly. And there were times when Ichiro did not perform... -

Looking back at the 2012 Trenton Thunder
When the 2012 season was just opening, you may remember I thought the outlook for the Trenton Thunder was not particularly good. After a disappointing 2011, Trenton looked to have many of the same faces, with the bulk of the Yankees’ best prospects slated to spend the year in Single-A and the loss of some of their big pitchers to Empire State. Boy was I wrong. Trenton put together a very strong 2012 season, and as those key prospects will be working their way up the next couple years, they could... -

Girardi keeps cool amidst slide
One of the more interesting topics of discussion before yesterday’s win over Tampa was hitting coach Kevin Long’s suggestion that the Yankees might try responding to their recent offensive woes by playing a little bit more small ball, in one of those ever present attempts to “shake things up.” Before the game, however, manager Joe Girardi more or less dismissed the idea out of hand.

Yankees drop another, division lead disappears
The New York Yankees will never win a game again. Okay, that’s not true. They’ll win another game at some point (maybe even this season!), but it sure doesn’t feel like this team can buy a win right now. Tonight started out well enough with a home run by Robinson Cano in the very first inning but, wouldn’t ya know it, that would be the extent of the Yankees’ offense, and two runs just ain’t going to cut it with Freddy Garcia on the mound. Tampa Bay knocked Garcia around in the middle... -

Granderson diagnosed with tendinitis
Curtis Granderson left yesterday’s game after a second inning at bat after feeling some tightness in his right hamstring, and I think it’s safe to say we all collectively rolled our eyes and expected the worst.
