I don't disagree, but what I was asking about was eliminating the job itself, as others here advocate.

The decision of the police chief on the scene who made the call not to engage immediately is unfathomable.

Boris Johnson's govt just changed the laws to prevent him from being removed from office when found to be in breech of certain rules. Brexit could be like electing Trump for 100 years.

Under this Tory govt, the UK is taking leads from the last fifty years of GOP playbooks.

Is the festering turd that the US is? No. Could it become the same festering turd? Very much so.

The right today is a pro death Trump cult.
The GOP wants to cause a mass exodus of public school teachers.

Seriously, Uvalde, a community of 13,000 people, has a $10M budget and 40% goes to the police. I guess schools are taxed separately as education is not in that budget figure. The police don't need more money.

Abbott can cry all he wants about it being a mental health issue too, as long as he puts back the $211 million he cut from the state's budget for mental health services. But again, that might cause some rich people to pay more so that's a no-no.
I'm so tired of the mental health angle. It's BS. Females don't do this. Gay kids don't do this. Disabled kids don't do this. Every group has mental health issues. It's straight abled males doing this evil.

I hate guns. Some friends consider me not to be a leftist because I don't think they should have guns, either. I also don't think anybody but the military should. I'm like, "Guess I'm not one." Though I consider myself one, they can think what they like. Their guns aren't going to stop tanks and drones. It's just stupid. I'm not joining the Socialist Rifle Association, either.

You still have better healthcare and no mass shootings. 🤷🏻♀

Already, police presence in schools protects the students far less often than it shuttles them into the legal system. Thanks but no thanks.
This is particularly true for kids of color.

They certainly have enough data on mass shootings now that they should be able to do some meaningful profiling.

You're obviously 100% correct that it's always males.

As for the mental health aspect, some of this depends on definitions.

If someone is both homicidal and suicidal, as these mass shooters generally are, does that qualify?

It also doesn't seem to be something that happens in poorer or inner city schools, and I'm not sure exactly why that is. That said, completely dismissing the mental health angle of these events is foolish IMO. It's in all our best interests to have generally good mental health in society, especially in a country that has as many guns as we have. No mass shooting was ever carried out by someone in good mental health.

My thought would be to regulate guns similar to how we handle pilots licenses (the more powerful the weapon, the more rigorous testing needed to get it) and use the tax revenue from that graduated license program plus taxes on gun/ammo/body armor sales to fund better, cheaper and more accessible mental health resources for all who need it (particularly those young straight abled males).

We do. The mass shooting likely won't happen.

But the current govt I selling off parts of our NHS to American Insurance Companies.

I have little doubt that mass shooters have mental health issues. Improving healthcare of all kinds is paramount to our world, regardless of what some idiots say regarding "healthcare is not a right".

I also believe, as anyone with any sense, that mental health is not an issue in American men at an abnormal rate but yet they do seem to want to kill others at a much higher rate. Or maybe, they just have an easier time getting hold of weapons that allow them to kill lots of people quickly.
