This is why asking tech nerds to moderate content on their platforms is a circular firing squad.

On a long enough timeline, censorship never stays contained to a single ideology almost always adversely impacts leftist ideologies significantly more than righty ideologies.
The fact that he personally OK'd this tells you all you need to know.

Zuckerberg wants Trump to win again because it's better for his bottom line and tax burden...and he's willing to destroy American democracy to get his way.

Not to be outdone by Cornyn in the race to the bottom of "worst Senator in America" Ron Johnson takes the lead going into Monday after appearing on (of course) Fox News yesterday to suggest without basis that there's child pornography on the computer that purportedly belongs to Hunter Biden.

He should be censured by the Senate like Joe McCarthy.

Ron Johnson had Cornyn lapped in that race already.

He really is awful - I'm flabbergasted by how cynical these clowns are that they intentionally feed the QAnon beast in their party. And he's not even going to run again in 2022, so he doesn't have the excuse of wanting to stay on Trump's good side.

Oh yeah, let's not forget Kelly Loeffler, the richest Senator, who is not an idiot, but happily took the endorsement of an idiot conspiracy theorist QAnon candidate for the House in Georgia.

And of course there's always Ted Cruz in the running.

But yeah, Ron Johnson is probably in the pole position.

I still can't believe that voters chose him over Russ Feingold twice.

This is not an accurate assessment of Zuckerberg’s political opinions. If you look at the mission of the Chan Zuckerberg initiative, it is antithetical to trump’s world view. Conservatives are a huge user base of Facebook though, so he has to try to avoid looking biased. They aren’t designing the algorithm to tilt the election a particular way-just to appear less controversial. Given that he himself is liberal and likely almost every Facebook employee is liberal, they apparently overcorrected.

Zuckerberg’s personal tax burden won’t change regardless of who wins. All his money is in Facebook stock and he’s going to donate most of it anyway to his foundation (making it tax free).

Conservaties cry that Facebook and big tech as a whole are out to silence them, meanwhile the algorithms were delibearly tweaked to promote their pages more and almost every day 80% of the top 10 shared links on Facebook are from right wing media. Just follow along -

I believe Zuckerberg is personally and socially liberal, but he cares more about money and he knows that under a Democrat controlled government he'll have to pay way more in taxes. Also, Trump might play footsie and say he'll regulate the industry because he's (again) the victim, but in reality, we know only Democrats will actually try to institute real regulation.

It’s ok to have that belief about him, but it’s not backed by the reality of his tax situation. Basically all of his wealth is in Facebook stock, and it is only a taxable event when he sells. He’s going to donate most of that wealth to his foundation, thereby making it tax free. Nothing Biden supports changes any of that. The only change is the increase in corporate tax back to what it was during Obama, but I don’t think present tax policy impacts a growth company like Facebook trading at high PE ratios nearly as much as it does a more mature company. Facebook is going to be worth a ton of money regardless of whether the tax rate is 15 or 25 percent. So I think it’s much more likely that the answer is as simple as an over correction to appease the right rather than some plot by Zuckerberg to elect trump.

I know that his wealth is tied to hi FB stock and how that's taxed. These algorithm changes were made a while ago before Biden was the nominee, back when, you know Liz Warren was calling for a 2% wealth tax. You don't think he'd be against that? Also, the 15% LTCG tax could be on the table for increases with a Democratic administration.

This is for a different thread, but I think no matter what, everybody's taxes should be raised even by a few hundred dollars. This once-a-century pandemic effects us all and we can't just tax the rich our way out of it. Shared sacrifice, etc.

I think he’d be against it but Warren wasn’t close to being the nominee, and even if Bernie became president, the wealth tax isn’t a policy supported by mainstream Democrats in the house or senate (this is because it has been tried in other countries and actually led to a decrease in tax revenue due to capital flight). Furthermore, it would likely require a constitutional amendment, just as income tax did. I view the wealth tax more as a negotiation tool for increases to estate and income taxes-kind of like a threat to be used to restore the upper rates back to something more fair. The republicans do something similar by supporting the flat tax-it’s not a feasible tax policy but rather starting point for negotiation.

It just seems like a reach to me to think Zuckerberg is secretly a trump supporter given who he is as a person and what causes he supports.

Ben Sasse, John Cornyn, even Mitch McConnell appear to be distancing themselves from Trump. But we’re not going to let them. They’re gonna know what it’s like to have to carry something to term, even when it threatens their very existence.

                            He won it yesterday, too.

Trump calls his program the “warp speed vaccine.”

Really. Look, I happen to know a bit about warp speed. If you push it too far, your damn ship will fly apart.

Some things shouldn’t be rushed. With all due haste, yes. Warp speed? Risky and wrongheaded.
