OK, I'll ask you: what about this trial indicates problematic aspects of the US justice system?

My take is this: if you think it's the wrong verdict, then your complaints are either with the laws, or with the jury. They shouldn't be with the actual conduct of the trial. Sure, the judge did some unusual things, and may have even shown a little bias, but not in a a way that should have affected the verdict. That jury saw all the video and heard the witness testimony and the arguments over and over. They had everything they needed to render a verdict.

The man who ran over and killed five people in Wisconsin, (Darrell Brooks, 39) was out on bail after running over a woman. He had a history of domestic abuse, and was involved in another DV incident right before the murders. Four of the five dead were women.

The prosecutors are now saying that his bail was "inappropriately low." You think?

His initial victim had tire tracks on her pants. Women's lives mean nothing in this system.

No such thing as inappropriately low bail. Either you are not believed to be a risk and should be released without cash bail or you are deemed a risk and should remain held.

What kind of bail reform has been instituted in Waukesha or even in Wisconsin as a whole? Maybe I missed it but don't seen anything in your link that says that is applicable here.

Part of the reason why bail was set so low because Milwaukee County are operating on a 2 year backlog, COVID shutdowns, and exploding crime. Just another liberal paradise:

The severe court backlogs in Milwaukee County are an issue we wrote about Sept. 18, 2021, but that the other media have shown little interest in. We reported then that Milwaukee County criminal courts are operating with a two-year backlog, and the felony case backlog was 1,615 cases in the latest estimate from late August, the Chief Judge Mary Triggiano confirmed to Wisconsin Right Now.

There was a backlog of jury trials too. Triggiano said in the interview with Wisconsin Right Now that there are 350 cases awaiting jury trial where the person is in custody with a speedy trial request. Some of those cases will be resolved short of trial, and some still have other court activities going on, like discovery requests, she said. The courts were able to toll the speedy trial mandates and are still able to waive them for cause due to the pandemic, she said.

She blamed COVID-19.

The backlogs come as crime skyrockets in Milwaukee.

“We’ve taken this pandemic very, very seriously, as well as we should, including the variants…we’re being very careful,” Triggiano told a County Board committee. She likened the court system’s “recovery efforts” to a “dimmer switch,” where the system goes back to normal gradually, not all at once.

The DA is an enthusiastic bail reform advocate. Chisholm has advocated for prosecutorial reform to eliminate the practice of keeping inmates in jails on cash bail. So whether actually policy has passed is irrelevant, in fact it kind of makes it worse.

Why is there a 2 year backlog?is it because the Republican dominated legislators have underfunded the system?

I heard Kavanaugh, he was unfit to be confirmed based on temperament alone. Didn’t stop every
Republican Senator voting to confirm him.
