Well, dude, why don't you try just ignoring my takes instead of breaking forum rules? Seems to me that would be the smarter play.

For me the good news is that of all the US political discussions I've engaged in, you're the only American who has tried to discount my opinion because I'm not American. You're the outlier.

House passes $768 BILLJON defense bill.

but, but, but who will pay for it?

what a trash country. Plenty of money to kill and maim women and children. But no money to feed them and provide healthcare.
Where can I see who voted yea or nay? I found the bill on congress.gov but couldn't find a link to the actual vote tally.

Friendly reminder, the Build Back Better plan is (currently) $1.75 trillion - over ten years. This is $768 billion for ONE YEAR. The BBB is 22% the price of this defense bill - in a year we supposedly ended a war.

Your lack of understanding of the mission, purpose, and function of the Department of Defense is frightening.

And your lack of concern for human life is more so. If when you are dropping your bombs overseas and somehow manage to only kill the “bad guys” I take it back but I tend to think that is the cas..but food for women and children here? They can go to hell. Sick. Unlike your lack of understanding of the working old and I fully understand the purpose of the department of defense. Otis sad they don’t. They are supposed to protect us and make it safer. Try It to figure out how with us bringing Al Aqaeda and ISIS into the world how we have done that

To protect US global Corporate Interests. There seems to be plenty of money around for that.

This. Pay attention to where the money goes. Hint, it isn’t to the troops. Payback for those big campaign contributions

What about protection and deterrence against Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, various terror groups etc. - why is that never mentioned?

Its purpose and what it actually does may not be as in sync as you like to think they are.

For anyone who thinks Newsmax is anything but Russian disinformation, here is the cover of Newsmax Magazine’s December issue. Hundreds of thousands of MAGAs get their news from Putin every day.

Many Republican members of Congress appear on this network to barf. And Trump advised his followers to watch it over FoxNews.

And Tucker Carlson suggests that Putin is just “trying to keep his Western border secure.”

Of course we need defense, but do we really need it to be like this?

And still have China and Russia pretty much do what they want around the world, and hack our systems seemingly at will, and destroy our democracy with nothing but hackers and internet trolls?

Again, the "we can't afford it" Build Back Better would cost 22% of what we spend on defense each year and that's just expenses, not taking into account the payfors in the bill.

I'm old enough to remember way back in 2015 when Russia was the bad guy, now it basically runs one of our parties.

It usually takes me paragraphs to try to state these facts. Much more succinct:

                              David Brooks:

I fell in love with conservatism as a young man. What the hell happened to it?

                              Christian Finnegan:
                              @ChristFinnegan

Ooh, I know this one! Your mythical Conservatism is a niche brand of elite narcissism incapable of winning national elections. So you used evangelicals/racists/gun nuts as electoral foot soldiers. But then--whoops!--they became self-aware and realized they don't need you.

                                a) How much do you trust China's and Russia's numbers?
                                b) How much of China's and Russia's cost savings result from exploitation of their citizens?
