Whining. Whatever. You chastise me for "letting some internet rando's opinion get under [my] skin" yet you referenced earlier that somehow my words encouraging vaccination while also asking for data at the same time were personally offensive to you. I haven't attacked you or anyone else here during this discussion. You however fail that litmus test, in spite of the fact that you have a nice little support group here. Seems to me you need the thicker skin.
Edit: one more thing. Developing such an effective vaccine so quickly was amazing and key to getting past this. The bs excuses for not getting vaccinated and the defending of those excuses is appalling and could close the window as the virus mutates. Yes, I hold the unvaccinated accountable and so should you.
I'm team vax LOL. I'm not making excuses for anyone. I'm asking for science to remove an excuse. I'll form my own hot takes on how I should feel about millions of people thank you.
Getting my booster on Thursday. Upgrading from dial up J&J to 5g Moderna.
I got the J&J the first time around. Moderna booster tomorrow.

Got my booster yesterday. I wanted to mix a Pfizer booster but my pulmonologist told me to match my earlier Moderna shots. That surprised me a little. but I trust this guy.
"Deep to left! Yastrzemski will not get it! It's a home run! A three-run homer by Bucky Dent! And the Yankees now lead by a score of 3-2!" - New York Yankees announcer Bill White (October 2, 1978)
Yeah, that union guidance is dumb. And the NYT is right to make that point. I hate how they're doing it though.
First, I think it's tenuous at best to by default say all deaths from covid among officers are "duty-related." I'm sure that's FAR from true. I looked for information on how that determination was made in the link in the NTY article, but couldn't find anything.
Second, there are roughly 700k full time LEO's in the US. With 460 deaths dating back to 2020, that would amount to a 66 deaths per 100k rate among LEO's over the 22 months since. Even if you assume all of those were in fact duty related, that's less than the death per 100k rate for all US citizens. Using 330MM US citizens and the 631k covid-related deaths through August 25, 2021 you get a death per 100k rate of 191.
I support the message, but they need to do a better job of using facts and data and showing their methodology. Otherwise, they leave it open as a stick to discredit the message.
How many cops are over 65? Given that 80 per cent of COVID deaths are over 65, I think if we adjust only for that, then that cop death rate begins to look pretty bad.

Good and fair question, to which I don't know the answer. One way to account for this would be to a) assume that 100% of deaths in the LEO population were <65 and b) backout 80% of the deaths in the general population.
This would give you 66 deaths per 100k for LEOs, and 39 deaths per 100k for general population <65, or an incremental death rate among LEOs of .027%.
Again, I support the message but would like to see a little more diligence in how it is portrayed.

Curious. By chance did you ask him why?
I finished my 2 shot Pfizer regimen back in April. I have no plan to follow up with any booster.

No. Question and answer relayed through office staff. Or I would have.

How can they say that they want to ensure public safety when they won't do everything possible (mask, vaccine) to reduce spread of a very deadly virus?

They don't care. Police unions are run by right wing thugs.
I think of all municipal employees, police officers should be the first ones vaccinated as they have the most interaction with the public of any department.
