    2020/21 Summer Olympics Baseball Thread

Baseball is back in the Olympic program

Unless something changes including COVID-19 concerns, Tokyo 2020/21 will be the first Olympic Baseball Tournament since Beijing 2008. However, it won't be in the Olympic program in 2024.

Isn't Japan just going to dominate this? Aren't they the only country here that sent their top pros?

Well, it's Japan's tournament to lose. They have yet to win a Olympic Gold Medal in baseball.

Still no score after six between Japan and the Dominican Republic.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched six scoreless innings of two-hit ball and nine strikeouts after 88 pitches. Cristopher Mercedes has seven strikeouts after six innings and 96 pitches while giving up one hit and three walks.

Koyo Aoyagi now into the game pitching the seventh for Japan.

The Dominicans get on the board first!

Charlie Valero with two-out, two-run double to left gives the Dominican Republic a 2-0 lead over Japan Top 7.

DR is 1/5 with RISP after that base knock.

That will be all for Cristopher Mercedes as he allowed his two first batters in the seventh to reach base with nobody out.

Hector Borg takes the ball and hands it to Luis Castillo with Japan having runners on second and third with no outs leading 2-0.

                            It's a one-run game.

Munetaka Murakami plated an RBI groundout to first. Hideto Asamura, who started the seventh with a lead-off single, scored on the play.
