Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners are two back of the New York Yankees for the second AL Wild Card spot after sweeping their bitter rival Oakland Athletics four straight.

The A's are four back with nine to go and the Houston Astros are coming to town to put the final nails in their coffin.

It's now 14 straight wins for the St. Louis Cardinals as they complete the double-header sweep on the Chicago Cubs, 12-4.

Magic number to clinch a playoff spot is four.

The Toronto Blue Jays lost their game to the Minnesota Twins, 3-1 to fall two back of the New York Yankees for the second AL Wild Card spot.

The Seattle Mariners can tie the Blue Jays with a win against the Los Angeles Angels.

The San Francisco Giants are the first team in baseball to hit the 100-win mark after throttling the Colorado Rockies, 7-2.

It's the first 100-win season for the Giants since 2003.

The Seattle Mariners tied the Toronto Blue Jays for being two back of the New York Yankees for the second AL Wild Card slot after holding off a late Los Angeles Angels rally, 6-5. The M's are also two back of the Houston Astros in the AL West title race with the Astros' magic number down to three.

Meanwhile, the Oakland Athletics crushed the Houston Astros to give their very slim playoff hopes a boost.

As for the NL Wild Card race, the St. Louis Cardinals won 14 straight games after sweeping a doubleheader with the Chicago Cubs.

The Philadelphia Phillies are five back in the NL Wild Card race with their elimination number down to four while the Cincinnati Reds are six back with their elimination number down to three.

Well, you can stick a fork in the San Diego Padres. They lost to the Atlanta Braves to see their elimination number down to two.

With the New York Yankees pulling to a tie with the Boston Red Sox for the AL Wild Card 1 slot after a 5-3 victory, the Toronto Blue Jays defeat the Minnesota Twins, 6-1 to stay two back of the AL Wild Card 2 slot. The Blue Jays elimination number is down to six.

The Tampa Bay Rays downed the Miami Marlins 7-3 to win the AL East.

The Los Angeles Angels crippled the Seattle Mariners 14-1 to see the M's lose ground in the race. The Mariners are three back and their elimination number is down to five.

The Oakland Athletics beat the Houston Astros again, 2-1, but Elvis Andrus had an ankle injury while scoring the game-winning run. Their elimination number is down to four. The Astros' magic number to clinch the AL West.

In the National League, the St. Louis Cardinals won their 15th straight game after beating the Chicago Cubs, 8-5.

That win saw their magic number to clinch a playoff berth dwindle to three over the Philadelphia Phillies and two on the Cincinnati Reds despite their walkoff victory over the Washington Nationals.

Well, the fork is not only stuck on the San Diego Padres. It was wrenched deeper as the Padres are eliminated from playoff contention after the Atlanta Braves outlast them 10-8 in 10 innings.

The Braves magic number to clinch the NL East is seven over Philadelphia.

The Milwaukee Brewers' magic number to lock up the NL Central is down to one after eliminating the New York Mets from playoff contention with a 2-1 victory.

The St. Louis Cardinals won their 16th consecutive game and their magic number to clinch the second NL Wild Card spot is down to one. A loss by the Cincinnati Reds against the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight will eliminate the Reds from playoff contention. A win against the Milwaukee Brewers or a Philadelphia Phillies loss to the Atlanta Braves will give the Cardinals the second NL Wild Card slot.

Speaking of the Phillies and Braves, they will tangle in a three-game tilt on September 28-30 in Truist Park with the Braves up 2.5 games on the Phils and their magic number is five to clinch the NL East.

Meanwhile in Seattle's T-Mobile Park, the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics will tussle to see who boosts their chances of gaining ground on the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays for the two AL Wild Card spots.

The Yankees and Blue Jays will wrestle in Rogers Centre where the Yankees have a two-game lead on the Jays for the first AL Wild Card slot and their magic number to clinch a playoff spot is five. Meanwhile, the Red Sox have a chance to boost their playoff chances despite being swept by the Yankees at Fenway as they travel to Camden Yards to tangle with the Baltimore Orioles.

The Houston Astros' magic number to clinch a playoff berth is down to three while the AL West title magic number is down to two as they take on the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays just need one more win to lock up top spot in the AL playoff bracket.

Finally, the NL West title race sees the San Francisco Giants up two games on the Los Angeles Dodgers and their magic number to clinch the NL West is down to five. The Giants take on the Arizona Diamondbacks while the Dodgers take on the very disappointing San Diego Padres.

The St. Louis Cardinals are inching closer towards sealing the second National League Wild Card spot.

The Philadelphia Phillies lost 2-1 to the Atlanta Braves inside Truist Park to reduce their magic number for the NL East title down to three. The Phillies are eliminated from the NL Wild Card race.

The Cardinals now need to beat the Milwaukee Brewers OR a Chicago White Sox win over the Cincinnati Reds to clinch a playoff berth.

The Boston Red Sox have lost four in a row as the Baltimore Orioles doubled them up, 4-2.

A big chance for the Seattle Mariners to move to a 0.5 game behind the Red Sox as they take on a sinking Oakland Athletics ship.

The St. Louis Cardinals are in the playoffs!

The Cardinals won their 17th straight game and lock up the second NL Wild Card spot after a 6-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Mike Shildt's squad will await the runner-up of the NL West Division title race between the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Wild Card Game.

That win also eliminates the Cincinnati Reds from playoff contention completely no matter their result against the Chicago White Sox.
