    March 22, 1993 "Cleveland pitcher Steve Olin is killed instantly and new teammate Tim Crews dies several hours later as a result of a boating accident at Little Lake Nellie in Clermont, Florida. Bob Ojeda is seriously injured as well, but he will survive and make a comeback in the major leagues. Olin and Crews are the first active major league players to die in an accident since Thurman Munson of the Yankees died in a plane crash in 1979."

    March 22. 1972- Yankees acquire relief pitcher Sparky Lyle.

    In one of the best trades in Yankees history the team sends first baseman Danny Cater to the Red Sox for reliever Sparky Lyle. In 1972 Sparky would be named AL fireman of the year. He would then go on to win the AL Cy Young Award in 1977 and help the Yankees win 3 pennants and 2 World's Championships. Sparky would also become the first reliever to be the winning pitcher in 3 conservation post season games in the 1977.playoffs.
