    Covid-19

Several folks have suggested we open a new thread to discuss Coronavirus, as it's starting to clutter up the Trump, non-Trump, and healthcare threads.

Let's try to hold this thread to actual virus, and news associated with it. Feel free to discuss the administration's response to it (or lack thereof) in the Trump thread.

Thanks to ojo, there's a solid dashboard here: https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashb...23467b48e9ecf6

Up to 108 confirmed and presumptive positives in the US. Testing still seems hard to find for most people and who they will actually test at this point is sketchy.

Well what do you expect, companies NOT to make money on this?

Consider a Florida man, Osmel Martinez Azcue, who returned from China and found himself becoming sick. As The Miami Herald reported, he might normally have gone to a drugstore and bought over-the-counter flu medicine. But because of the risk of coronavirus he did the responsible thing and sought medical attention: He went to a hospital for testing. In the end, it turned out not to be coronavirus — but he was billed $3,270.

Confirmed case in New Rochelle....50 year old lawyer. Hadn't traveled out of the country.

          https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/03/n...sultPosition=6

The man initially went to a hospital in Westchester about four or five days ago, before it was confirmed he had the virus, the authorities said, acknowledging that he may have exposed doctors, nurses and others to the illness.

“We believe that a couple of the medical professionals have been quarantined,” George Latimer, a Westchester County executive, said at a news conference, adding that state health officials were examining “what exposure might exist” to the staff at that medical facility, the NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, N.Y.

The patient has since been transferred to a Manhattan hospital. He is a lawyer who lives in New Rochelle and works in Manhattan.

Thread covering today's WHO daily media briefing unrolled. Informative. Trump could just read it to the nation and forget all the other stuff. If he could read.

Right now CDC is reporting 60 cases and 6 deaths for a case fatality rate of TEN PERCENT.

              Clearly, that's wrong.

If the US fatality rate is the same as China (2%), we'd be looking at 300 cases. If it's the same as Sout Korea (more like 0.5%) we'd bee looking at 1200 cases.
              INCOMPETENCE!

Ugh - my company just put a ban on travel for work and we can't attend any conferences or meetings with more than 25 people. So bummed because the annual conference for my trade association is in a couple of weeks and I look forward to it every year. I think the policy is a bit overboard but whatever.
2020 - We have baseball! For now.

On my actuarial board most larger companies are doing the same.

My son has a trip planned for Japan at the end of the month and his employers have told him not to go. Of course he also works for a large hospital so that plays into the decision.

I believe each covers 500 tests.

Yeah. He made a mistake referring to kits instead of tests. Amateur.
