Total, complete failure. The lockdown, the testing, the masks, the reopening. All of it, for nothing. We're just as bad, if not worse off than we were on 3/13.

Mostly a result of stupid people who don't wear masks or keep density down. And I mean deeply fundamentally stupid people

Starting with those at the top of the government who have deliberately resisted scientific information, failed to put forth any cohesive approach, and undermined state efforts to contain the virus. At the simplest level, if the President chose to wear a mask instead of presenting it as an unmanly infringement of liberty, other people might be less emboldened in their stupidity.

The EU might ban American travelers when it reopens. They should, honestly. We're not safe. What an abject failure Herr Drumpf is.

Trump started his term by banning brown people from coming to America and will end it by having Americans banned from travelling anywhere. So much winning.

I truly wonder if there is just mass denial going on about what is ahead of us with this virus.

Why would shutting down for 2 or 3 months mean the virus won’t return with approximately the same vengeance when we open up?

Yes, it presumably gave us the chance to catch our collective breaths and internalize precautions such as face masks and washing our hands and that should have some impact on how fast the virus spreads this time. But it hasn’t gone away and it hasn’t weakened just because we watched Netflix for two months.

I’ve Been saying all along there won’t be any sports opening (aside from tennis, nascar and golf) in 2020. I just don’t see how it works.

The lockdown was supposed to give the government time to coordinate efforts to flatten the curve, get PPE out to everyone, produce enough tests to allow a strategic opening that would allow for contact tracing, etc.

Instead we stayed home, the economy tanked, 40 million jobs were lost, and Trump complained and played the victim the entire time while putting states in bidding wars against eachother and the federal government.

We can never totally "reopen" until there's a vaccine, but we closed down for no real reason because our leadership is morally corrupt and incapable of trying to govern.

In all fairness, Trump has taken to calling it the Kung Flu and asked his people to slow down testing.

It’s not like he’s not at least trying something.

Let's see how the Northeast (NY,MA,NJ) reacts when it comes to re-opening as we have truly flattened the curve. Stores are still requiring masks, social norms have changed considerably, and there are a lot more services available now than there were three weeks ago. If the stats are to be believed, just wearing masks in public should cut down the risk of transmitting the virus considerably.

In TX, FL, and CA, it's the wild freaking west when it comes to controlling it.

It’s absolutely ridiculous here in CA. My own city said, about a week before Newsom started opening up the state, that they were no longer going to be enforcing any of Newsom’s orders, and that stores/businesses/people in our community were free to do whatever they wanted, and the city would leave it up to the state to reinforce. Since then, we have had massive influxes of people every weekend, clogging up every business, walking around without masks, no social distancing, etc. We had 9 total cases and no deaths in our community just a few weeks ago. That number has very slowly started to rise. I imagine it is going to be much, much higher by the time summer is over, and we’ll have to lock down again.

Depends where you live. Things definitely better in NYC as we enter phase 2. But then again here social distancing and wearing masks is still a requirement.

The horrible truth is that we can't lock down again which is why it was so critical not to prematurely re-open.
