Re: Covid-19
Originally posted by YankeePride1967 View PostConnecticut is breaking down the high risk/priority into 1A, 1B and 1C. Then phase 2 and 3. 1A was healthcare workers and nursing homes, 1B is first responders. Grocery workers. 1C is over 65 and those with underlying conditions. They are moving on to 1B next week

At this time 1C isn't expected to rollout until early summer according to state. Maybe a bit earlier but I wouldn't count on it.
I'm age 62 (63 this summer) with no great health risks or essential, crowded workplace etc, so I don't expect to see a vaccine anytime soon. My 34 year son who has no medical conditions but works for a Boston, MA hospital in administration, albeit he now works remotely with no plans to do otherwise until at least July, has received his first dose of the vaccine. You wanna know what? You gotta problem with Luis Cessa, you gotta problem with me. And I suggest you let that one marinate

Re: Covid-19
The current projection for vaccine being widely available in the summer aren't accounting for the fact that both J&J (data expected end of January) and AZ (already approved in UK, waiting for better data for US approval) are likely to significantly boost supply in the winter. There will also likely be a significant part of the population that is either slow to get the vaccine or outright refuses to (I believe it's about 80% of healthcare workers who are agreeing to get it, and this is a population you would expect to be trust science). I also have much more faith in the Biden admin helping pharma ramp up production/streamline deliveries than I do the incompetent people in the Trump admin.
I stand by my projection of March/April for being widely available! But I have to admit that I have been wrong before.
I view the current rush to vaccinate in NY as a very good thing. Even though we all want it for ourselves/elderly relatives ASAP, the 25% numbers for usage that were reported have been absolutely pathetic, and every person that gets vaccinated, no matter who it is, is one less person that will spread the disease-thereby bringing us all closer to being done with this crap.

We are very fortunate that the mRNA technology had reached a mature stage of development when it did, and that the government believed in it and these relatively inexperienced companies. If we were relying on traditional technologies, we'd be well behind where we are now.

Re: Covid-19
Originally posted by billyhoyle View PostThe initial AZ data was the result of them just not doing a great job with the study, but the bottom line is that the vaccine is at least 70% effective. Most likely it is actually 90%, and with the state of the pandemic, even a 70% effective vaccine would be highly beneficial. This is why England is already giving out this vaccine.
