The Merck vaccine was pointless anyway, even if their phase 1 data looked good. It would have been very challenging to recruit enough people for a phase 3 trial at this point, and they would undoubtedly have to have done so outside the US in a country that isn't currently doing widespread vaccination. Almost the entire world pharmaceutical market (U.S., Europe, Japan) will have been vaccinated by the time phase 3 would have been done.
Their therapeutic candidates are definitely interesting drugs though. One is basically a different version of Remdesivir, and the other is an immunomodulator. You wouldn't expect either to be game-changing, but they could be useful tools for doctors in the treatment process-and useful for other diseases as well down the line.
Cases have started dropping, and thankfully I think we are entering the last couple months of the pandemic.
I didn't realize it was only one dose. That is a good thing. I saw a graphic today that said over 19M+ Americans had gotten one dose, but only 3+ million had gotten the second one. I'm hoping that's just because most first doses were administered in the last 3 weeks, but I fear some will just not go for the second dose. I feel so fortunate that I've already had both shots (Pfizer).
I'm scheduled for my second Moderna shot on 2/13, I just hope it's there for the taking. I'm not too worried because it seems the strategy has been to cancel appointments for the first shot to ensure people can get their second on time. Such a mess.

I took our friend to the Pratt&Whitney facility in East Hartford (About a 50 minute ride)to get his first shot for a 6:10AM appt this morning. There had to be 40 people in line, luckily we got there early and he was 4th in line. We were done by 7AM. There's got to be a better way. (he got the Pfizer vaccine)
You wanna know what? You gotta problem with Luis Cessa, you gotta problem with me. And I suggest you let that one marinate

I know right now there's more of a supply issue than a demand one but I would hope as things ramp up we're able to get retired doctors/nurses signed up to administer the shots and have some 24 hour clinics. Speed is key with this.

Agreed on 24 hour clinics...I would have happily gone at 2 AM for a shot.

Az started a 24/7 vaccine site in hopes of getting as many people vaccinate as possible.
