    That.......wouldn't be good.
Sure, there can be some limitation of powers. I just think the primary ordering principle should be that state governments generally suck even more than the federal government.

So, the reality is, you want me to provide a list of things the government does wastefully without using any resources that point out government wastefulness? That's going to be a challenge.

Who is “they”? The members of Congress from those states?

No, the Congress itself, as a legislating body. If members form those states dissent, that's they're prerogative.

Blaming excessive or wasteful government spending on "someone locally is asking them to" infers that the government must comply with that request.

It seems like we need better enforcement of fraud by private citizens and corporations against the government. It doesn't really detail government waste but rather actual criminal activity against government programs.

It’s how they got elected in the first place. If you actually want it changed, rather than just feeling important talking about it, literally shrink the government. “Elevator operator” is nothing compared to the expenses of flying Congressional members of Alaska to and from and giving them lifetime benefits. Making the representation proportional would literally be more efficient. Fewer Congressional paychecks, travel expenses, benefits, federal funding for wasteful industries. From states that don’t pay in. You’re giving me $1000 examples. I’m giving you $B examples. That is, if inefficiency is the actual concern.

But what I’m outlining is the reason why Republicans rail against the Census.

Great. I'm in. I've been an advocate of reducing the size and reach of the federal government for years.

I don't know what the census has to do with governmental inefficiencies, but...OK. From my perspective, the census is required by the Constitution. Republicans can rail against it all they want. It still needs to happen.

They rail against who gets counted for apportioning members of congress, largely to retain what minority rule they can where they can.

It’s how representation is determined. Republicans know if an accurate one was taken, they would lose position.

I understand THAT. What I don't understand is how the GOP's point of view on the census has anything to do with government inefficiency or bureaucratic bloat.

Yes, but you don’t give realistic examples of how that would happen. Firing elevator button pusher minus the cost of unemployment is nothing compared to “Zero Senators for Wyoming.”

Someone else > Wyoming has the same number of Senators as California.

Maynerd > That's because Wyoming is a state, and each state gets two senators.

Maynerd > We're a collection of individual states. We have two houses in Congress. One is apportioned by population, and the other apportioned to the individual states. That was by design, so the centers of population don't have an undue influence over lower populated areas.
