I think one reason why the CDC is doing this is because you hear a few vaccine hold-outs saying "if I have to still wear a mask after being vaccinated what's the point of getting vaccinated?". So now the CDC is offering a carrot - you get vaccinated you can stop wearing the mask.

I understand all of that but from the perspective of someone running a business, it's a bit more complicated. How to best serve your clients while also best protecting your staff is not always the same.

I feel bad for the small percentage of people that can't get vaccinated and children that are not eligible yet but the people that are putting them at risk are not the people that are vaccinated and half the country has dropped their mask mandates anyway. Like I said, it's just frustrating. We should counting down to herd immunity right now but instead here we are. Too many people unvaccinated and the virus with too many hosts that could be allowing it to mutate.
I hate that we're not counting down to herd immunity. Sigh."Our work continues, the fight goes on, and the big dreams never die." -- Elizabeth Warren

Exactly. And what is worse people now are being harassed for wearing masks. Due to my situation I have to look at it as if I am not vaccinated (even though it has been 3 weeks since my second shot).

As someone who got J&J this is really making me question things. Between this and my personal story of my sister in law who also got J&J getting a positive case after her two week post-shot date, I can't help but wonder if it's safe to try and get Pfizer after getting J&J?

Eight members of the New York Yankees — seven coaches and support staffers, plus shortstop Gleyber Torres — have tested positive for the coronavirus over the past three days, even though all of them were fully vaccinated. The news came as the Centers for Disease Control said Thursday that fully vaccinated Americans no longer have to wear masks indoors or outdoors in most cases.
According to the Yankees, all of the infected team members had been inoculated with the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which was found to be 72 percent effective at preventing moderate to severe covid-19 and 74 percent effective at preventing asymptomatic infection. Other vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna, which require two doses, have been found to be more effective by the CDC at halting the disease.

A lot of people may be wondering, with 8 vaccinated breakthrough cases on the Yankees - is this evidence the vaccines aren't as effective as we thought? The short answer is no. A brief thread:
