That is a great album. One of many groups that couldn’t stay together due to Clapton’s ego.

he’s a fantastic guitarist no doubt. But I don’t understand why anyone would take any advice from him unrelated to playing guitar

    he failed at school
    he failed at marriage
    he failed at raising kids
he was a raging drug addict who burned through one fortune before he got clean
he was never able to keep any band together for any length of time before clashing with band mates
he was racist in the 70s
    Baseball is life;
    the rest is just details.

If you want me to vote for you, you should probably have some political positions that agree with my own. But if you're an actor, or a musician, or a plumber, or a barber, I don't care about your politics; I care about your talent in your specific profession. I never understood the refusal to do business with someone because of their political beliefs.

'Layla' is a work of art. Clapton's political positions do nothing to add or detract from that fact.

And here I thought Clapton would never write a worse song than "Tears In Heaven".

I do. Just because you chose a different career doesn't mean you can't have political opinions and use your platform . Give me more Ed Asners.

I agree with both of you. Regardless of profession, everyone is entitled to their political opinion and use their platform as they see fit.

I personally just don't care about 99% of those who do so.

Being addicted to heroin and in love with your best friend's wife is a catastrophic life path, but it can lead to some incredible art.

In fact, I’m a big fan of the kind of addict artist who sings/plays/whatever from the bottom of their pain, holding nothing back: Janis, Judy Garland, Hank Williams, Billie Holiday, Art Pepper, Jackson Pollock.

Sometimes I enjoy listening to the opinions of people on a silly little yankees message board I sometimes patronize and I have no idea what half of them even do for a living.

He claims he was vaccinated and had a severe reaction that lasted weeks and had him wondering if he would ever be able to play again. Believe him or not!

Whether you put it in terms of art or celebrity, the idea that we need to exploit people's addictions and pain in order to build or maintain entertainment from them should be shocking.

                              Doesn't sound right.

Regarding the plumber and barber, I'm more likely to go to ones whom I know are supportive of human rights (and are good at what they do, of course). I'd rather give my money to good people.

Art is different, because no two musicians or painters are the same. However, I'll still listen to a good musician. Eric Clapton won't be any less rich if I listen to his songs on Spotify, which I already pay for. He sucks, but he made some good music.
