Nope. Even without Trump this showed how truly unprepared they were for the real thing. They've spend most of their existence in the theory realm and never had to actually deal with what they put out whitepapers on.

Did you read Michael Lewis' book The Premonition? The CDC comes off looking terrible in it,

I have not read that. Sounds depressing. I'll give it a look!

I think it also had to do with fears of essential services being understaffed. That’s a more reasonable policy decision, but not a science based one.

Also the American Heart Association updated their Basic Life Support guidelines saying that if I need to do CPR on a covid positive patient, I shouldn't delay it to wear proper PPE or place a face covering on the patient - just immediately starting compressions. I mean, if i have to do CPR, the patient's probably already dead, so the few seconds it takes for me to put on PPE won't make that much of a difference.

              It's ludicrous.

Regarding CPR on a patient with COVID, I wouldn't be doing rescue breaths if I didn't have proper PPE. I'd skip that and just do the chest compressions.

The NJ Hospital Association has recommended that hospitals restrict all visitors except in certain circumstances (pediatric, end of life, etc.). I was in the hospital in the summer of 2020 with that restriction in place and it is very lonely.

I had to go to Yale yesterday for my fourth round of five of iron IV infusions and they changed their policy to patients only allowed unless the patient needs assistance. Used to be patient plus one

They did this at work for a time last year, but it's been more relaxed for a while. I imagine we'll go back to that, though it does suck for patients. Nobody but a partner could visit after a baby was born. Pediatrics could have one parent. Sadly it needs to happen again. It really shouldn't have stopped, I guess, but things seemed better for a while. Sigh. I hate this so much.

Due to staffing issues, portions of the NYC subway system had to be shut down today

That last part though. The amount of patients I did cpr on in the last 2 years was more than my 11 years of being a nurse combined. Not one time did I go into any of those rooms without my PPE. AHA might not be looking out for me, but I damn sure am. How utterly irresponsible of them to put out those guidelines. Even my raggedy hospital management reminded us there’s no emergency in a pandemic, get your ppe on before you jump in.

Not that this is at all on the same level, but tonight Subway (I know) was out of all bread except jalapeƱo and wheat, because there was one employee by herself and she didn't have time to make bread. The guy in line in front of me was cussing like a jerk, so I just smiled and said, "It happens." I felt really bad for her.
