For someone who hates Trump as much as you understandably do, this is a pretty good impression of him.

He was a Marine colonel who survived two tours in Viet Nam and survived 9/11 but tragically could not survive this virus. He was in his late 70's and lived a full life, but did not deserve to go like this - isolated and away from his wife, children, grandkids and extended family. They did let my aunt in to spend a moment with him today (with full precautions taken) but by that point the only thing keeping him alive was the respirator. He was not responding to painful stimuli. But she got to say a goodbye before making the tough and admirable decision to take him off the ventilator and let him pass peacefully so that the life saving equipment could be provided to someone else in need with hope of full recovery.

He will be deeply missed and his passing was premature, but the most tragic aspect is that his kids didn't get to say goodbye while he was still alive, and further the funeral will be limited to 10 people tops. He deserved the opportunity for all his family, friends and loved ones to say goodbye and to receive an honor guard and military service. Things that may seem small with everything else going on but he lived a charitable life worthy of those small remembrances. Hopefully someday down the road we can celebrate his life and grieve as a family together, the way we should be doing now.

Thanks for letting me post these words here. I'm finding it hard to grieve in this virtual and isolated environment.

        Stay safe out there.
Wow, False1....I’m rarely in here anymore and thought tonight to check it out and saw this post right away.

Stories like this drive home how pointless it is to compare raw numbers between this and the flu or this and cancer, etc...while it IS a math problem in some respects, it is NOT arithmetic when dimensioning the unexpected and cruel way this virus is ripping apart lives and leaving loved ones in a state of completely unexpected and suspended grief. Over time closure will come to survivors but I’m sure right now it doesn’t feel that way...

Very well said in your post. I hope your family and the thousands like it are doing the best they can under incredibly trying circumstances. And much respect to your Aunt....that has to be a heart wrenching decision and I could only hope to have even a fraction of that wisdom, strength and bravery under those circumstances.

So y'all just let me know when you are ready to bring race into this thread cause it's there, lurking, waiting. Maybe just start with this thread. I even unrolled it for you to make it more manageable.

Covid-19 attacks groups who are most vulnerable and in America, no one is more vulnerable than poor black people (and poor Native people.) A host of issues ensured black people would contract and die from coronavirus at the highest rates, including housing, employment and heath.

I know it’s the wrong thread, but you should get points for this post.

I saw a post from a Black man on Twitter who said that wearing a mask in public was a privilege. He basically said that he didn't want to die from the virus, but he also didn't want the cops to be even more likely to kill him.

Our County has ordered everyone to wear a mask/face covering when leaving the house for any reason. Failure to comply is punishable by $1000 fine or imprisonment of 90 days, or both.

I’ve ordered a few masks that should be here soon, but will have to create one at home until they arrive. I live in a house all by myself, with my nearest family two hours away. It’s getting harder to keep from going a little crazy every day. I talk to my plants for amusement. They’re starting to talk back to me.

I am, by nature, a loner. I love being alone and I love living alone and I love being home. Normally I treasure my alone time. However, even I am going a bit stir crazy during this time.

My recommendation - go adopt a dog. I think I'd be insane without my boy during all this. He keeps me active and keeps me company if I'm feeling lonely.

I'm lucky in that I also get to go into work 2.5 times per week so I get to get out more than a lot of people which is really nice.
2020 - We have baseball! For now.
