Funny story. My son's friend came over to play this afternoon. His mom dropped him off. When I stepped outside to shake her hand, she said, "Oh, I'm not shaking people's hands." I just smiled and said that I understood, which I do. After she left I laughed that she wouldn't shake my hand for fear of coronavirus (presumably), but was fine with her kid staying at my house for a few hours. :lol:

So far, kids don't seem to suffer much with Covid-19, if they get it at all. So she might be excused in taking greater care of herself than of her kid, especially if she is also a caregiver to someone high risk.

Right, but if he got it from us then she'd be pretty high risk to get it from him, since he lives with her.

I'm trying to get some detailed information about food shopping, as we will probably be doing grocery shopping for our parents in coming weeks. The basic question is how we deal with anything brought into the house. For example, take a can of soup....it's been touched by someone who stocked it on the shelf, been in a cart, on a checkout counter, touched by a cashier and touched again by a packer. Now I bring this can into the house, so can I just put it away or does it have to be cleaned? Same idea goes for just about everything else I pick up at the store. Just because I keep my mom out of the store doesn't mean she can't get the virus anyway.

My aunt and uncle are 2.6 miles from the center of the containment zone.

I'm going to assume you wash fresh fruits and vegetables along with washing your hands before and after you go to a grocery store because that's just a good practice to do even before this virus issue. I doubt canned goods etc are that much of a problem but I guess it's possible.

I'm going to assume you wash fresh fruits and vegetables along with washing your hands before and after you go to a grocery store because that's just a good practice to do even before this virus issue. I doubt canned goods etc are that much of a problem but I guess it's possible.

Everything I read says it can live on surfaces for varying amounts of time. Most of the stuff we buy is low risk, but fruits and veggies out in the open are likely a higher risk. How many folks handled an apple that you're buying? It's possible a bunch picked it up and put it back before you touched it or put it in your cart.

There is evidence to believe it can live on surfaces for up to two days. Which makes this even more concerning.

I don't know how many times I've seen a person lick their fingers when opening one of those plastic bags in the veggie aisle and then paw through the green beans. So yeah, I always wash that kind of stuff when I get home. (I also always wipe down the the handle on the shopping cart with a wipe before I start shopping. Other folks lack of personal hygiene is always a concern for me.
