      What a joke.
If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

Monty actually pitched pretty well for New York, including his one playoff start.

Sonny Gray is the one that really gets me though, I loved that trade at the time. He was good for Oakland 114 ERA+ but clearly clashed with Yankee coaches over pitching style and pitch selection where over parts of 2 seasons he pitched to a 96 ERA+, then he goes to Cinny and becomes a 135 ERA+ ace and gets better in Minny pitching to the tune of 142.

Eovaldi I never thought he'd amount to much more than back of the rotation inning eater but he clearly learned something in this partial season with Tampa that he's been able to turn into a above average pitching career. I can't say he's ace like but he sure has shown up in the post season since leaving New York.

Does Montgomery get more than 4yrs/$80M? is he worth that? Should the Yanks be in the bidding?

IMO Montgomery > Nestor Cortes as a #4 or #5 guy/lefty starter on a contending team, and Cortes may be more "dependable" working out of the bullpen instead of counting on him in the rotation.

Do you pay $20M AAV for a #4 or #5 guy these days? He's made 94 starts in the past three seasons for a total of 523 innings pitched.

Yanks only had two starters (Cole & Schmidt) pitch at least 159 innings this season.

Should the Yankees bid on Monty? Yes.
Will he come back here? No not after being insulted by Cashman. Cashman will be admitting he made a mistake which he rarely does and Monty would have to be blown away to return.

Last year Bassitt got 3/$63M, Senga got 5/$75M, Taillon got 4/$68M

I'd imagine Monty has pitched himself into that kind of range with his career and past 2 season numbers.

With how he was treated on his way out last minute deal and "not going to start in post season anyway" and what he said about Yankee coaching. Something like learning more about pitching in ST Louis in 4 weeks than he learned in New York in 4 years, I'd be shocked if he was in pinstripes again while Cashman is GM.
