Jasso is interesting - he's much closer to an IFA signing than a typical draft one. From what I can tell, he was born and raised in Mexico (in a baseball family - his dad played), and upon graduating high school in his home country, he enrolled for his freshman year at New Mexico JC in the states, where he put up an historic season for them.

Now he signs with the Yankees as a UDFA because he's age-eligible.

Yankees sign UDFA #9....Peter Serruto...Catcher...6'2" 195 RH. This guy must be some receiver because his 5 year college numbers with the bat are pretty unimpressive.

An article on Serruto. Think you hit the nail on the head - sounds like he is an exceptional catcher.

Yeah, you've always been able to, the amount over just counts against the pool. Yankees have done it a bunch of times since the pool rules, usually earlier on in the process though.

We should have known it was on the table when they did it this late in the game, as we could see everyone signed and they still had a budget surplus clear as day.

Oh this years pool...I thought we exhausted it in signing Roc...I guess we didn't.. I know they had I think 760,000 to offer him or something like that ...Just thought the math was off when his bonus came out. This is even a better story now.

So BA had Castillo signing listed in the UDFA tracker but now it's not listed? I hope nothing changed here..
