I agree that the reload link works for people posting a lot. These people would constantly be looking at the end of the thread after submitting the post, and their hands would already be on the mouse to click on the reload link.

The F5 button method makes sense for people who mostly read the posting and want a constant update of new postings.

Many people, like myself, can't see the game on TV or hear it on the radio. (MLB.com's customer service drove away this long-time customer.) These NYYFans members rely on the game thread to describes the parts of the game that Gameday or Sportsline play-by-play don't. These members just want to quickly and simply request to see the new posts submitted since their last updates.
Your method is perfect for that purpose.

...by the way, are you friendly with high tides? Forever?

So right after the last post on a page seems like a very logical place for such a link.

It would be kind of nice if the "new posts" link were down at the bottom also. Possible?

It may be just the way I surf the threads but I generally read all new posts of interest without much regard for the forum. So when I finish reading a thread, I go back to new posts but that means scroll back to the top or to the bottom for the "top" link. I hope I explained that. I certainly could be alone in my reading style though.

I read the Forums the same way. Your suggestion would be helpful to me as well.

When I was a kid, we didn't have any of these gol darn new-fangled game threads. We had tin cans with string attached and you had to yell to your buddy .

I don't get it. High tides? Forever?
