Anyone else listen to Kay today? He went absolutely nuclear on this front office.
About time.
I listened for about an hour. He echoed a lot of what is being discussed here….basically a need for better athletes and less of the walk/strikeout/homer type that brings little else to the table. Kept saying that the current approach doesn’t work and that they have to reinvent how to construct the team. Also talked about how Cashman needs to either chart a change of course or bring someone in who can help him, realizing that Cashman is part of the Yankee family and is unlikely to be cut loose. All good stuff IMO.
I guess Brian takes today, maybe another day or two to get all the blame flow charted out. So maybe by Monday we'll hear who takes the fall? Maybe the assistant trainer or the translator dude?
The players. No specific player, just "the players." And luck. Lots and lots of bad luck.
Everything we need is in that room. The players just failed to translate my design into our ultimate goal, a world championship.
Except on the other hand, they were successful! Made the playoffs, you know, 5 years in a row. Not many other teams can say that. It's all a crap shoot anyway. Did the Red Sox make it in 2019 or 2020? Did the Nationals make it in 2020 or 2021? No? Hah! They can't say they made the crapshoot 5 years in a row, but we can.
And oh those injuries. So many injury-prone guys we acquired and/or gave extensions to got injured. You can't plan for bad luck like that. And Covid. It hit us, only us. More bad luck.
The players like and respect Boonie. He relates to them like men, doesn't yell at them or hurt their feelings. If one of them fails to hustle, he makes it clear to them that for that to be OK, they have to feel bad about it. And I can't tell you how good he is at taking the Anna Littucks team's instructions, I mean recommendations.
In the end, if a few things happened differently it would have all been different in the end. We all need to do better, me, Boonie, the players, everyone. And we will. Our goal every year is to win a championship and by staying the course someday we will.

I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up.

You had better stop or the FBI is going to pay you a visit for hacking Cashman’s computer.
No, Cashman is pushing a misapplication of analytics and Hal is on board with it.
Cashman is an over-his-head GM who constantly apes others but just doesn’t get it right.
“Hey, the D-Rays and Stros are using analytics, we had better get on that!!! Quick, hire me some number person to tell us what to do and it will be the World Series just like that.”

Yeah. I agreed with a lot of what was said on Kay’s show today. But when they started pushing that as a possibility I tuned out. Not sure if it was intended to be sarcasm, or if they were really trying to plant some doubt as to the root of the team failing.
If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

A factoid that he brought up that really surprised me: The Rays actually struck out more than the Yankees did, this season.
More people have walked on the moon than have scored an earned run off of Mariano Rivera in the postseason.
