They have made trades with financial considerations to get to this point, including each trade they made last year requiring that 100% of the 2021 salaries be carried by the player's former team (has that EVER happened before for a contending team??).

Now they're here. The timing is perfect because there are young, elite FA at critical positions available. The roster still has enough talent within it where if they add truly elite pieces they can take a legit swing this year and next at a minimum. The alternative is you waste two years of Judge and Cole (and a few others to a lesser degree) and if you refuse to rebuild I shudder to think what this lineup will look like in two years.

But hey, at least Hal will be able to divide up a few extra million from the bottom line from this franchise that already prints money. Meanwhile, fans start making Steinbrenner and Cashman voodoo dolls.
    Amen..... Great post!

Because the owners will insist that the threshold limit be lowered than it is now and therefore, it will effectively be a cap system. The players know they screwed up from the last CBA, they're not going to risk doing so again in these negotiations.

Let's face it, the Dodgers got some injuries during the playoffs that definitely hurt them which the Yankees can't use as an excuse.

            sigh.

I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up.

Yup. Repeat a lie often enough and people start to believe it.

Build a super rotation and fill in the rest from the farm...

The Braves would not even have smelled the post season if they were in any other division.
More people have walked on the moon than have scored an earned run off of Mariano Rivera in the postseason.

That also happened sometimes in the 3 Division, no WC days.

That only works when you have the right people in place to identify, coach and refine young talent at both the minor and major league levels.

The Yankees don’t have those people in place and haven’t for 20 years.

Now the Dodgers are gone, my 2 pennies. (injuries)

I definitely don't want Corey Seager, in fact I don't want a SS. For me he is like Gallo a LHB that SO. Spend the money (or trade Sanchez but get rid of him) on a catcher and solid #2 SP (I think we can fill in 3-5 or another SP if available), play Ursehla at SS with Volpe in the year. I posted the stat numbers before after we moved Torres to 2nd (way too late). Seager was terrible in the series: 0.188 BA, 69 WRC+, more Ks than Hs (fit right in our lineup), and I think he made the (error? gave a hit) for DP that cost the game (ATL walk off game). Brian is going to spend money like he always does and all those late trades just to get a WC. And posters are happy. (Matzek shut the door on LAD with 3 Ks (highlight of the game) and last one was Betts - it's pitching)

Our projected rotation next year is:

                      Cole
                      Sevy
                      Montgomery
                      Cortes
                      Taillon

                      With the following as backups:

German, Clarke Schmidt, Gil, plus some prospects

That's extremely good. And our lineup is filled with hitters who should be able to OPS over 800, even before any offseason upgrades (much better than just filling in from the farm). Good bullpen too with ridiculous depth and anchored by Loaisiga and Clay Holmes.

2021 was a really bad year from both a performance perspective and a surplus value perspective (the massive underperformance plus the accumulation of service time crushed many of our players' asset values). Things still look bright for 2022 and beyond (our roster and pitching is still very good and our farm had a good year, even considering the deadline selloffs).

Who do they have that you'd want to count on in the rotation?

Pretty much all question marks. Even post sticky stuff Cole. Sevy has really not pitched in 3 years. Is Cortes for real or another Aaron Small? Sure they could all turn out good but right now there are no guarantees on any of them.

Yeah but that is like the most optimistic outlook on every single player. How realistic is it that everyone stays healthy and lives up to their most idealistic projection?
