I am referring to Gardner's antics towards other players - Tyler Wade, etc. If you don't see that as hazing then we have different definitions of that word..

Time will tell whether or not the trade for Roughned Odor was worth it. The minor league centerfielder the yankees gave up hit 20 home runs and had 20 stolen bases. Maybe it was Joely Rodriguez that tipped the scales.

I dont even mind Odor for what he is, but how do you offer that for a basically DFA'ed player?

From what I've read in several articles, no one who reported on it referred to it as " hazing ", but more of a practical joke. Maybe there is a grey area there, but I wasn't there, and neither was anybody else here, so we really don't know what the " atmosphere " was like except for " hearsay " reports. From what I've read, Gardner was shocked at Cole's reaction, which tells me it was meant more as a joke. But, enough time wasted, I'm done.

Just my $0.02 but it has nothing to do with Gardner or his idea of joking and everything to do with making fun of a teammate's on-field struggles which is understandably a sore spot for any player who plays the game with intensity. We're not talking about nailing down someone's shoes or sitting naked on a birthday cake.

It's just a brain-dead, unforced error from a guy that apparently gets paid to lead in the clubhouse.

I mean, not making accusations here... but what if it were being rumored that Gardner - who went from a guy that had the bat knocked out of his hands on 80 mph fastballs and whose head has swole up something crazy - was using HGH to improve his contributions on the field? Would it be yuck-yuck funny if Cole wore a cap smeared with HGH all over it and sauntered on up to Gardner in the clubhouse?

I mean, whether Cole reacted the way you wanted him to or not (I happen to think he acted rather predictably, in terms of getting initially upset before calming down and apologizing), what exactly did Gardner think that the reaction would be?

I think it's best that Gardner moves on, I just hope Cashman changes his mind and feels the same way. His current effectiveness as a ballplayer and with a starting CF made of glass isn't a good combination for success. Shift Hicks to his role and get yourself a better starting CF.

Well, for Cashman to have a say in it, it would require Gardner to exercise his team option and then for Cashman to release him outright and eat his salary. The team option only kicks in if Gardner declines his player option. So I think it's almost a lock that Gardner picks up his option and the team is stuck with him. Cutting him seems highly improbable. But I agree that I think that would be the right move in spite of the sunk cost.

Only thing worse than being a Yankee fan these days (well unless you are a Jets-Giant fan) is also being a Manchester United fan.

Similar parallels; both Yankees & Man U are family run by 2nd get sons, spend money but have no clue on how to put it together and are employing pathetic GM's/Coaches.

Winter is coming but as a fan of both teams, I feel the snow is 5 feet high with no way out right now.

Honestly don't know a lot about English football but I thought Man U was the best team that won all the time.

Because the Rangers were willing to pay his entire contract for both '21 and '22, and any CBT impacts. The Yankees, who didn't even bump up against the CBT threshold this year since they ONLY acquired players where teams ate their '21 contracts, prioritized money over talent - both the talent being received and the talent being sent.

Right. What made this even more infuriating was the realization that even as they were adding "free" players and enriching the assets sent out to acquire them, they STILL didn't spend up to the CBT threshold last year, falling (I think, but need to double check) like $7MM short.

Regardless of the exact amount, if the goal was to reset the tax, fine... but:

1. Increase the pool of available SP targets from "guys that teams want to pay to leave" (aka Heaney) and go get someone that can actually materially help your push for the playoffs
2. Take advantage of the reset in a really deep FA class this year to reestablish this team

According to a family member, Anthony Rizzo is quite eager to return to #Yankees in 2022. That’s an important first step, assuming NYY want him back. Have to assume they do.
