At catcher - Gary really showed improvement behind the plate and especially with a bat in his hands. All you need to do is compare 2021 to the last two years. Light years better. If they get the robo pitch calling there will be no need for him to badly try to frame pitches, so a major plus.

At 1B - I don't look for Rizzo to be signed. He'll cost way too much for a team that can't afford ball boys down the lines. So it'll be DJ or maybe a crafty pick up by the wise Cash Man.
At 2B - All set, Gley can handle that position quite well as evidenced by the last two weeks of 2021.
At SS - Here is where the Cash Man has that little wiggle room. If he can't find a gem in the rough at 1B, he can pivot and get that gem at SS. If not - hey Gio was a superstar at SS when asked to play there.
At 3B - Look it's Gio or DJ. Boom. A no brainer. With DJ back from his bad 2021 we have our All Star MVP.

OF is more than set. With Judge in RF and Gallo in LF (now knowing how to excel as a Yankee) and Hicks manning CF AND the 3 spot in the order we are golden. When you also add the amazing Gardner as the backup OFer playing 150 games with the grit and attitude of the 2009 Yankees you know all is great.

Pitching is in even better shape.
As for the SPs - you know all the worry about the SPs not having pitched in 2-3 years that all came true in 2021, well that's all behind us now and clearly the oft-injured starters are all due for a non-injury filled season. So all set there.
RP - Best in the game.

Now all we need is 2-3 part-time TV analysts to come on board to fill out the coaching vacancies and we are ready to defend our 2nd Wild Card title.

Have they announced when they will be raising the 2021 2nd Wild Card Flag next season. Hopefully not opening day. You could easily get another huge gate if it was after opening day.
Another 3-4 number retirements could also boost ticket sales. Hal needs the money.
I agree with some of your choices but re Rizzo, how do you know how much he will want and how much he can get on the open market?
    It's impossible to know now.
All we know for sure he wants to finish his career here (per his family) and wants to play for a title.
Who could meet all those demands?
I think they will come to terms .

This is so spot on that I can't even consider it parody. This is exactly how the offseason will unfold.

You got to love it. Judge not even a finalist for RF Gold Glove.

Honestly, with the way he has handled everything, especially with the Astros sign stealing, I think it is impossible to predict what the commissioner is going to do, what he is going to care about, and when.
I absolutely agree, and mentioned something similar in a prior post. The issue I have is with Manfred and predecessors. These roles were granted broad, sweeping authority to oversee the game and its integrity. They continually turn blind eyes to things until they become tempests in teapots, and then bungle the response. There was nothing urgent about this in the middle of the season, and everything they new in the middle of this season they knew last season. They had just introduced the dead ball this season which is probably what made the game feel unbalanced with and advantage towards pitchers. That should have been corrected in the offseason, but regulating sticky substance AND by correcting the baseballs. Hopefully a bright young talent like Glasnow doesn't suffer long term consequences.

Narrative #1 - "Cashman and the FO have access to information that we as fans don't have and therefore it is impossible for us to critique their decision-making."
Narrative #2 - "Cashman and the FO couldn't possibly have know about X or Y." X or Y in these cases being things that many folks on a message board called out before the fact and not retrospectively.

Again, I give props to the Cashman PR machine for staking out territory on all sides of every issue. This grants them the ability to never be seen as wrong and to muddy the waters to such a degree that no one knows which side is up - the ultimate effect is mass gaslighting.
Is this in regards to the Cole signing? I don't think either of those things apply. I think we all had access to the information. Everyone knew about it. Baseball had tacitly permitted it. Again, Bauer publicly defied baseball to do something about it, said if they didn't he'd start doing it, started doing it, got the richest AAV the sport has ever seen after doing it... and then in the middle of a season baseball decided that it was imperative to enforce suddenly.

Cashman would have been rightly KILLED if he didn't exhaust all efforts to sign Cole.

Sad too because I’d venture to guess that Judge or Gallo is actually a better defensive CFer than Hicks would be at this stage of his career following injury. Leave it to Cashman to acquire an elite RFer in Gallo only to make him an average LFer.

I guess the Cole signing fits into this model, but I was looking at this from a much bigger picture and general perspective. What I have tried to point out here is how Cashman and his PR folks have manufactured consent for his tenure as GM. The two seemingly conflicting narratives I pointed out are wheeled out at different times to justify decisions made by the team. What no one seems to question is how they are at once all-knowing and all-seeing and completely in the dark and not privy to information. It is also important to point out that the truth and reality don't matter much in these narratives. Let's look at Cole. If things go south with Cole, we will start to hear how there is no way that the Yankees could have known he was using the sticky stuff. It doesn't matter if there is any veracity involved. IIRC, the Yankees did this around ARod and even sought to extricate themselves from his contract as a result of their being duped. On the other side of the equation, when fans question moves in real time they are told to pipe down because they don't have access to the information the team used to make the decision.

I agree with your general point. Re: the bolded, hopefully that hypothesis never gets tested, but if it does it would be a tremendous way to empirically prove your point if the media didn't call BS on that immediately.
