2021-2022 Off Season Thread

Off the trade topic again for a moment. Not much news about baseball over here, of course, but what’s the likelihood of the universal DH next year? Notwithstanding all the “tactics” and “tradition” stuff, it must be a huge advantage to the NL teams in the WS when they play at their home park against AL teams that aren’t used to having to bat the pitcher in the lineup. Do you think the NL will be prepared to give up that advantage?

Ironically the only pitcher with a hit in the WS is Houston’s Greinke. He loves to hit. Since there are so many non-starters pitching in Atlanta and relievers rarely hit, there really is no NL advantage. There would be if starters actually lasted 7 or 8 innings. Those pitchers had actual batting averages.

Long overdue, and the timing would be perfect for the Yankees if they do want to try and unload Stanton and/or they still for some reason want to jettison Voit.

Or at least Stanton can play in most of the inter league road games. Not sure if anyone would actually take him off our hands. Voit and Andujar become a little more vauable though.

Why Trade Stanton on a friendly contract and the guy can hit and he can play the OF when they decide to put him there.

I keep Stanton if they realise that they could rotate him and Judge between RF and DH.

This season the Yankees offense is actually a bigger problem than the pitching. Even if they sign Seager/ Correa it wouldn't be enough. Unloading Stanton wouldn't help.

Stanton's value will never be higher with the DH coming to the NL.

He had a very good season staying relatively healthy and playing the OF.

I go back and forth on Stanton - one hand the money it frees up, with some of the FA coming in the next couple of classes, gives you a lot of flexibility - on the other hand, he and judge fully healthy are so dynamic

I'm with you on the other hand - keep him and play him in the OF 2 or 3 times a week. IMO he should be platooning with Judge @ DH/RF

I'm not concerned about the money, nor should I be. Money should not be an issue if this organization wants to get to the WS. I can understand if they want to re-set the LT penalty every couple of years, but I'm also hoping the new CBA will lessen the penalties going forward.

Which is exactly why they should be looking to trade him. The contract is only going to get worse as he ages. My opinion would be different if they were willing to play him in the OF more often, but they're not, and $22 million a year for DH who still needs a day off once a week isn't that much of a bargain.

Tanaka would be a good sign as he is NY proven. He can be a back end SP if the price is right as he turns 33 today.

Stanton has a full NTC and he likes it here. He is not going anywhere.

For all those reasons, I am not clear on why anyone would want to take on the back end of his contract.
