Tanaka would be a step backward. He had a good run while he was here but his best years are behind him. Time to move forward.

If the NL implements the DH, I could see the Dodgers being interested at $22 million a year to take him off the small-market Yankees payroll.

Tim Hyers, Sox hitting coach, leaving for opportunities with other clubs. Hmm, wonder if we are going after him.
        Let's Go Yankees!

Yankees say yes, Phillies say no.

              Has he done any broadcasting?

He had a very good season staying relatively healthy and playing the OF.
He's worth more than $22M if Cashman would actually let him play the field. How many other .870OPS/137 OPS+ hitters are out there that make less than $22M (and have hit free agency)?
I feel like the average player in FA is getting close to $20M AAV

Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? Cashman: Ronald Torreyes. He’s an analytical darling.

Yanks will go internal on the hitting coach hire - probably their director of hitting - he’s a Matt Blake type guy

Has to fit Cashman's criteria. Will work for not a lot of money.

He also hasn't pitched in a year, so he seems to fit the profile.

He threw 155 IP for Rakuten in the Japanese league this year. I'm not saying I want them to go after Tanaka but he did pitch at a professional level in 2021. He some how went 4-9 with a 3.01 ERA, Rakuten's offense must have been worse than the Yankees this year.

                            3.01 ERA (5th in the Pacific League) with a 1.03 WHIP. It's a freakin joke Cashman didn't re-sign him.

Ah, didn't know that. I just looked him on baseball reference and saw nothing for 2021. Thanks for info.

On B-R, you just need to click on the "Show Japanese & Minor" link across one of the top bars on his page, that's where I found it.
