IMO, that's not even up for debate. His player acquisitions were terrible and you can't keep hiding behind the excuse of the playoffs being a crapshoot because it doesn't excuse what the Yankees haven't accomplished since 2009.
I dont know if I would say they are a crapshoot, but every year every team that makes the playoffs could possibly win the WS. Cant say that about Basketball or football. That doesnt mean that like it seems Cashman is doing, you build your team to be good enough to get into the playoffs. With their resources they should be putting together the best all around team possible. If they do that could they still get knocked out? Of course. The Dodgers didnt win it all this year but I dont think their fans are complaining that they didnt try hard enough or spend what they should have.

The odds aren't good, but it's possible that the Yankees as a team got hot with really good hitting and pitching right when the playoffs began and carried it through the playoffs. Granted, it's a long shot, but still possible as the Braves had all kinds of obstacles even during the playoffs, but their hot hitting and relief pitching carried them through. They still won their division despite adversity which the Yankees failed to do. The 2021 season for the Yankees was a failure, no matter how you slice it.

It can happen quickly that’s for sure. Red Sox also had WS wins and last place finishes in pretty quick succession.

Is there anybody arguing that Cashman did a good job with this team's roster? Just about all of us thought this team was lacking in hitting and pitching which is why they got bounced in the WC game.

Got a bad hunch we're back in the Sanchez Zone in 2022.
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up.

So Trevor Gott signs a major league deal with the Brewers, and gets put on the 40 man roster. However, its a " split contract"; he will make different salaries if he plays in the minors vs. majors. I've never heard of this before; is it common ?
More people have walked on the moon than have scored an earned run off of Mariano Rivera in the postseason.

I certainly hope that is not the case. Cole and Kluber did not want to pitch to him. I am sure SP like Ray might not want to join the Yankees with Sanchez behind the plate.

They need to end this experiment with him. Their best "catching" prospect is Austin Wells and he is not a catcher by any means.

the Yankees already had a quality LF.

Rizzo helped a little but he wasn’t a difference maker.

cashmonkey left a tattered pitching staff in no better shape.
Rizzo might have helped a little but getting him pretty much rendered Voit useless. So Cashman actually added guys that really did not fix any problems. And then there was Heaney.

As usual, Cashman asleep at the wheel.

It's common in the NHL. But not in baseball.

Seems like the Players' Union would be totally against this.

                          Unreal.

Queue Cashman’s canned response when they pay Sanchez $9-10 million in arb: “After exploring the marketplace, we found the prices exorbitant and it became clear that Gary was our best option moving forward....”

From what I read, they were going to decline Barnhart's option anyway, and were interested in getting Quitanna ; the Tigers drafted him in 2019.

Do you honestly believe that Cashman couldn’t have made a better offer than that?

Probably any team could have made a better offer; I'm just posting what I read about the deal. Edit: Tigers drafted him, not the Reds. For some reason, they wanted him. The deal sounds like it was already in the works; they were just waiting for the WS to end. Maybe Cashman never got a whiff?
