Despite all of the trade deadline selling, we still have a significant 40 man crunch to navigate.

Assuming we dump Gittens and Nelson, we still only have 3 spots to protect the following 7 guys: 1. Vasquez 2. Pereira 3. Breaux 4. Lockridge 5. JP sears 6. O Cabrera 7. Marinaccio (spelling?). Not psyched to lose any of those guys (and I assume the first 2 will definitely get protected).

Some ways we could free up spots would be minor trades/DFAs of Miggy, Frazier (depending on health situation), Florial, or Odor (who should have positive trade value given the Rangers are paying everything). Obviously there are many other possibilities too.

Anyone know if Riding would need to be protected? I assumed he didn't have to be.

Our easiest drops (Velasquez, Allen, Locastro) are getting picked up by others. We have tougher drops to come. I think we've had the most guys taken from us in the Rule 5 over the last few years. Shows how deep we are even after all the deadline selling.

      RAB:

The Yankees did not add Stephen Ridings to the 40-man. He had an elbow injury in Triple-A in September and (I think) is a minor league free agent.

I don’t know if that clarifies anything but I’d like to see him back.

NO more Joely...signed Sands to the 4 man roster (now have 3 catchers, he was drafted some time ago)

A good move keeping Sands over that lefty reliever.

I couldn't find anything other than this RAB report. It's weird and I would wait and see because 19 Nov is the deadline for teams to add eligible minor leaguers to the 40-man roster to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft. It doesn't make sense for the Yankees to make Ridings a minor league FA now considered that he isn't on the 40-man roster. They don't need to do anything with him this early.

                5. Marcus Semien (IF, Age 31)

Arguably the most durable of the shortstops, and he showed off his versatility this past season by shining at second base for the Blue Jays.

Prediction: Yankees, five years, $140 million

                19. Justin Verlander (RHP, Age 38)

Perhaps the most fascinating person on this list, he won the AL Cy Young Award in 2019 and has pitched in just one game since thanks to Tommy John surgery.

Prediction: Yankees, one year, $20 million

                27. Anthony Rizzo (1B, Age 32)

He made a very strong first impression in The Bronx, although it would be even stronger if he would get vaccinated.

Prediction: Yankees, two years, $32 million

                  Paying excessively for downside.

Verlander has pitched one game since 2019. 38 years old. A perfect Cashman guy.

Beat me to it. I was going to say this word for word--sounds exactly like a Cashman plan.

Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? Cashman: Ronald Torreyes. He’s an analytical darling.

                            35. Brett Gardner (OF, Age 38)

Would he actually play elsewhere if he and the Yankees can’t find common ground?
Prediction: Marlins, one year, $4 million

That would make him the 4th highest paid player on the Marlins if Aguilar (8mil) or Anderson (5mil) get these predicted arbitration numbers. Rojas is at 5mil for 22. Looking at these salaries being the highest on the entire team Gardner doesn't equate at 4mil. League minimum maybe.

He’s definitely going to hit 26hr and be an actual clubhouse leader there
