If you're the Yankees, you would turn that deal down if the A's insisted on Volpe?

Yeah to get those two, I'm ok with "overpaying" in talent to beat opposing offers and get two guys that can be difference makers in 2022.

The A's would be shedding a little more than $22M by dealing Olson and Manaea and picking up about $12M to pay the 6 Yankees acquired, plus - did you notice the $5M the Yanks would be giving to the A's? Bottom line - they'd be saving about $15M and can still be contenders in the AL West. Voit replaces Olson in the lineup and German replaces Manaea in the rotation. Olson becomes a FA after 2023, Manaea becomes a FA after 2022 - the A's probably can't re-sign either player.

Syndergaard to the Angels: 1 year / $21 million.

I'm very concerned about Cashman doing something very stupid with Verlander that will prevent him from properly addressing far more urgent needs.

Good gamble for the Angels. Rather take my chances with Verlander over Thor.

Berrios stays in Toronto 7/131. I take back my Freeman speculation. The money is out there.

I wouldn't go near Verlander. You're not convincing me he didn't rely on sticky stuff.
Magic uptick in movement and spin rate.
              Houston- cheaters generally.
              Cole was on it there.
Every pitcher around him was incredible, from thin air except maybe ZG.

The last thing this team needs is another performance/sticky stuff question mark compiled with a huge injury risk and age related decline risk and just performance drop from not pitching a whole season.

Verlander and Thor are who you (as a large market team) gamble with when you have a stable rotation. Or at least a true TOR and #2 pitcher.
If he works out, it's great. If he doesn't, you still have a very competitive team.
You dont gamble on these guys to make the playoffs.
Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? Cashman: Ronald Torreyes. He’s an analytical darling.

                1. Cole was still REALLY good without sticky stuff.
                2. Guarantee in this next CBA they'll have a standardized substance for pitchers to use for grip.

Plus , usually first year back inst great after a big injury. So it seems like you’re paying him to rehab

Verlander was sitting between 94-97 in his rehab showcase.

I don't have issue with signing Verlander as long as they don't use this as an excuse for no money going after Seager/ Correa.

We like it now because we need a great short stop and he is that and blunt and brutal honesty is something we haven't had in a while, but is anyone going to want to hear this guy say a word when he is mired in a slump and the team is floundering or as his talent naturally fades with age, but if they sign him we're going to have to listen to him anyway. Perhaps he'll endear himself enough early in the deal with outstanding play and some clutch postseason hits that he'll be so well regarded that people will just appreciate that kind of personality. The one positive I will say is that he at least always defends his teammates from what I've seen.

Still Yankee fans blasted Machado and said they didn't want him because of one "Johnny Hustle" comment not realizing that Machado unlike every player on our team at the time plays 162 or a couple games shy every year. With Correa you get one of those comments every week. When will you get tired of it? I think pretty quickly if he isn't an absolute star and the Yankees don't win a championship immediately with him.
I don't really care how the media treat him as long as it doesn't affect his performance (which no one really knows). As long as he hits, his 'no filter' personality could quickly turn him into a New York media darling and fans favorite. Aaron Judge trolling the Red Sox by playing 'New York, New York' at Fenway was not actually Jeter like professionalism either. People also just laughed when Paul O'neill just destroyed a water cooler.

If he came cheap, I wouldnt mind Kluber even if they got Verlander

Almost definitely. But I doubt it will be anywhere near as effective. They didn't just ban it to bring it back.
