-5.8 framing (and he's been negative for 15 or 16 years straight ) and -3.1 Def,

      ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I'm reading he's a right fielder, so unless they're willing to make Galo or Judge the regular CF and concede Hicks isn't going to play, I don't see how he fits.
Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? Cashman: Ronald Torreyes. He’s an analytical darling.

Since Sands was on the 40-man, I guess we should expect at least a 3rd catcher added to the mix? I heard Yan Gomes' name brought up the other day. He'd be a nice get IMO. He can have Higashioka split time with him, making Sanchez expendable. I'll bet they'll still get 20 HRs out of the C position.

I'm not convinced that Castillo, for example, is an upgrade to that group (his track record is not as good as his stuff) and, even if he is, I don't think he is worth the prospects for the marginal upgrade.
Thanks again for allowing me to get up on my Sean Manaea soapbox. Any potential deal for Olson needs to include Manaea, IMO, which means it's time to use the prospects to get into a win-now mode. I'll give up top prospects (along with three quality ML players plus $$$) for two years of Olson and 1 year of Manaea - along with first dibs on extending them both.

Once again, it has to be contingent on the Yanks also signing Seager.

The additions of Seager, Olson and Manaea sure do strengthen several weaknesses for 2022.

The losses of Voit Torres and German are, let's just say necessary in the big picture.

As much as I would salivate to have Scherzer on this team - that might be excessive spending.

I guess I'd choose to spend my money elsewhere, considering all the options that are available.
It depends on the total budget for 2022 but that would be off the books by the time they need to dip under again and you wouldn't be locked into him when Cole and Stanton are over 35.

Good points made. $40M AAV just shocks my senses lol. And I certainly wouldn't want to get into a bidding war with the Dodgers.

With an ERA+ of 120 in an OFF year, I'd say Castillo's more than a "marginal upgrade" over a guy who's pitched 18 innings in 3 years, a pixie-duster with 16 career starts, and a guy who was league average after missing almost 2 years.

Time to end treating Severino as if time stopped in July 2018. By now he's a lottery ticket at best.
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up.

I'm treating him like a #3. My guess is the Yankees see him the same way, hence the Verlander rumors.

The Yanks need to get Cortes and German out of the rotation, IMO. Those two should be depth if they stay with the club or happen to get traded.

Side note: I wonder if Cortes' successful season and the increasing importance of a swing man lefty like he is increases his value - maybe he's a sell-high type.

Severino is getting good money on his contract and needs to be pushed a bit in 2022, IMO. If he blows out his arm - so be it.

I certainly don't want to depend on him to be a #2,

Sands was traded. Currently they only have Sanchez and Higgy on 40-man roster.

I think we're saying the same thing - I just said it differently.

He's not even a #3. He can't even, with rose colored glasses, be reasonably relied upon to pitch a whole season- let alone pitch a whole season effectively. I'd trust German and Cortez to give me both +25 starts and an ERA+ over 100 long before Severino.

It's going to be nearly 4 years since he pitched well in April (~45 months), and basically 3 years since he's pitched- less the combined 18 innings he pitched in 2019, 2020 and 2021- lol. I mean, come on.

                            Good points. I agree.

                            I guess I'll just hope he'll be a #3

Probably not but I got an itch to look at the NBL (Japanese baseball) and the best catcher is Kai Takawa who has a cannon arm and soft hands. His release to throw is faster than all of MLB last year. I have no idea how well he could hit or what his contract status is but the Yankees need a catcher.
