Cohen really screwed things up giving Lindor that massive extension when he didn't have to, and right before this bumper crop of FAs.
Lindor, at age 27 and 4 months signed thru his age 37 season. Seager is age 27 and 7 months today.
Correa is age 27 and 2 months today.

Lindor signed right around opening day 2021 so Seager will be 28 opening month 2022 and Correa will be 27 1/2 opening month 2022. They’ll both be a little older than Lindor when their contract sets in. I don’t think they’ll top his contract in $ but may get 10 yrs.

Cohen said in GM press conference they’re willing to spend this off season. We’ll see.

I don't want Rizzo. He is declining and expect him to be worse next year.

Since we are operating like a small budget team, I wonder what kind of fit Bryant would be? He can play 1st and 3rd. He won't command the top dollars.

Wouldn't mind taking on Votto's contact if it lessens the price for Castillo.

Edit: I'd also sign Freddie to a 6 year deal before Seager at 10 years.

They need to acquire Olson. Period.

That being said, I fully expect them to take the cheap & lazy route by signing Simmons for SS and re-signing Rizzo at 1B so Hal can maximize his profits and Cashman can continue hoarding prospects he's eventually going to ruin anyhow.

Perhaps Yankees can give up less to land Olson if they obtain Andrus...Just a thought as a 1 year stop gap for SS.

Hal needs to make the fans think that he cares, so I don't think he would sign Simmons. Instead Story would be their ideal signing. A former All Star having a down year and they could use DJL as reference.

Hal said he was all in on Gallo. He probably thinks that was enough to placate the fans.

Yanks should offer a 1 year 25M offer to Story as a "Prove It' that he can hit outside of CO. He can cash in next season in a weak FA market.

Sign Semien, Freeman, and trade a lot of the farm for Reynolds. Three offensive juggernauts.

Semien, Freeman, Reynolds, Judge, Stanton, DJ, Torres, Sanchez, Gallo would be a deadly line up.

                    Reynolds
                    Judge
                    Freeman
                    Stanton
                    Semien
                    DJ
                    Gallo
                    Sanchez
                    Torres

If they're trading premium prospects, does it have to be for 1B? Get me a pitcher first and foremost, but if not get me a two-way impact player at premium position. I'm in on trading for Olson, but not if it eats up elite trade chips (Volpe, Dominguez, Peraza) that could prevent us from going after someone better. Also you're buying after a career year where he halved his K rate, is that sustainable? He's a 2nd tier trade target for me. Oakland has to take the next tier of prospects or consider including someone like Montas, Murphy or at least Manaea. Even keeping Voit (rather than selling low) and pairing him with a lefty with more defensive prowess and pushing Stanton to play more OF (so Voit can DH) sounds more appealing than selling the farm for 1B.

Plus if they do opt to pass on the top SSs you probably have to keep Peraza and Volpe anyway as stopgap options are only holding the fort until they get here. And If they don't go stopgap you could sign someone like Seager who fits the left handed bat need that Olson is filling. Trading Dominguez now is pointless in any realistic scenario for me unless the team feels differently about his ability or someone values him as top 10 prospect in the game which they'd have no reason to do right now, in all other scenarios you're potentially selling low on a premier talent.

Semien is a RH 2B, great player, horrible fit. His SS defense is only a moderate improvement over Gleyber by defensive metrics and he's on the wrong side of 30 when that goes FAST.

Reynolds is a great trade target. I'd give Volpe for him, but don't know if that's enough with some 2nd tier prospects to motivate the Pirates and if you give Volpe you either have to commit to signing a SS or be really sure about Peraza. Pirates would probably ask for Volpe and Dominguez. Too much for me.

I love Freeman, don't think Hal will spend on him, but if he's going to go cheap at SS need to get the lefty bat somewhere else. Freeman is ideal in that respect.

i dont dispute that they need help in the rotation, but hitting was their downfall in 2021. This needs to be a priority. Olson checks all the boxes both in the short and long term. I expect a package headlined by Peraza and Wells will do the trick.

If their excuse for not signing Correa/Seager/Semien is their expectation that Volpe will be ready in 1-2 years, then they can go out and sign someone like Ray, who also won’t be as expensive from a AAV standpoint.

                            Yankees PR:

The New York Yankees today announced that they have traded INF/OF Tyler Wade to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

I think Ray is not the pitcher that overachieved in 2021. He walks guys and gives up home runs - not a good combination to spend a lot of money on IMO.

I'd rather spend on another overachiever - Carlos Rodon - for an AAV around $20M and no more than 3 years and hope that he's figured it out and can stay healthy. I think he can be as good in 2022 as he was in 2021.
