I'd rather spend on another overachiever -Carlos Rodon - for an AAV around $20M and no more than 3 years and hope that he's figured it out and can stay healthy. I think he can be as good in 2022 as he was in 2021.
I disagree. He made clear mechanical changes that drove his transformation. I believe he can continue to pitch at this level moving forward + Cashman has liked him for years.

If their excuse for not signing Correa/Seager/Semien is their expectation that Volpe will be ready in 1-2 years, then they can go out and sign someone like Ray, who also won’t be as expensive from a AAV standpoint.
They may as well just trade Judge if they need to wait for Volpe.

Btw I think Ray should fire his agent if he couldn't get a contract with AAV around 30M. Verlander gets 25M at 39 years old coming off a major surgery and only pitched 6 innings in 2 years, while Ray is just coming off a Cy Young season at 30 years old.

Can Domingo German, Gary Sanchez, Deivi Garcia plus $5M bring back Pablo Lopez (scheduled to get around $2M in his first year of arbitration) from the Marlins?

Then maybe sign Yan Gomes (for 1yr/$5M or 2yrs/$10M to split the catching duties with Higashioka?

Are Pablo Lopez and Yan Gomes > Domingo German and Gary Sanchez?

It would be nice if the PTBNL can be Andrew Velazquez.

I would think that the general consensus is if Cashman likes him - stay away from him ?

Cashman has liked Matz as well.

I think the answer to your last question is yes, which helps provide the context for my answer on your first question.

I like your trade proposals, it's fun to think about creative ways to improve the club, but I do think you have a tendency to propose trading quantity of damages goods for real assets from other teams. German has upside, and I think he'd be a good trade target for a team like the Marlins or A's (or many others) specifically because you can probably buy that upside low due to his off-field baggage. I don't think the Marlins would want Sanchez dealing with a young pitching staff, even at a $5MM discount. Garcia's trade value got completely hosed last year.

If the Yankees are trying to acquire pieces that have real value, especially from teams like the A's or Marlins that literally replenish their rosters via trades of good young players with a little cost control left, you're going to have to offer good, untarnished players in return.

Story has nothing to prove. He’s getting a 9 figure contract. He’s be a fool to risk it for a one year deal to make a little more.

I haven't read thru all the posts, but there appears to be some agreement that Gardy won't be back. Why do some feel that he won't be resigned? I thought it was death, taxes, and Gardy?

I've been saying this for a while.
If they're not all in right now, while they still have Cole, Stanton, and Judge in their prime years, they may as well blow it up.

If they're going to continue to act like a small market team, it would be cool if they move to a small market so it would be cheaper to see them play

I certainly don't feel this way. They have moved almost everyone that can play CF except Hicks and Florial. I expect them to say they couldn't land Marte and the Pirates wanted too much for Reynolds... we have no choice but to sign Gardner again as a "backup"

                            Yes, absolutely.

Much as when the 2013 Yankees were putting up an 88 OPS+ they should have traded Cano and rebuilt then if they knew they weren't going to go all in for him in '14. Instead, they let him walk for nothing and went splurging on good but not great players (exception: Tanaka) that weren't game changers.

                              Torres
Freeman will stay in Atlanta. Even so, this lineup is skewed too heavily to right handed batting. Gallo does not make enough contact.
