Because it got them the second WC position last season.

Yeah, I mean if they sign Brett Gardner again and Stanton, Hicks, or Judge get hurt and he has to play more time than they anticipated... who could see that coming? I mean that is completely unpredictable right? And if, because he has no options, he can't be sent down or cut no matter how terrible he is... I mean, they have no choice but to block other options from coming on the roster and helping out right? What else could they have done? They only wanted him as a backup OFer... who by the way would play 5 or 6 times a week because of how often the Yankees rest their starters...

but who could see him getting a lot of playing time? That was just completely unpredictable!

Must be great to root for a team going all out to win. Whether they are successful or not when the season is over.

If the Yankees wouldn’t go 23 million for Ray, it’s hard to envision them making a significant move.

How about going after a younger better outfielder to back up Frazier and Hicks?

So far they have show an reluctance to go for long term deals, medium term deals, and short term deals.

1 year deals. That's their wheelhouse...

The only one of these free agents I want the Yankees to break the bank on is Corea. The rest, not so much.
You wanna know what? You gotta problem with Luis Cessa, you gotta problem with me. And I suggest you let that one marinate

There was still no need to sign him. This is what AAA is for. He not only cost money that could have been used more productively, he also blocked prospects. It's not like they could have been much worse.
Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? Cashman: Ronald Torreyes. He’s an analytical darling.

yup, like i said upthread, this forum is like watching a bunch of Charlie Browns trying to kick the football.
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up.

But they have not signed him this year as of now so if they do then people can blast it.

You don't think there is a 100% chance that the Yankees sign Brett Gardner?

At this point I'm hoping for a major trade where they get a top-tier player that is younger and still has a lot of prime in front of him.

I'm not optimistic that it'll go down that way, but that's my hope.

They're already tweeting about him. As in the Yankees' official twitter account!
