The AAV seems a little high of course, but I presume that is in part to constrain the number of years. And the vesting options based on plate appearances would be a good way to contain injury risk.

That said, I don't think there's any way Judge would consider that offer right now even for a moment. If I were his agent, I'd tell him no way he should sign that.
If that's true, I would trade Judge this offseason (like the Sox did with Mookie Betts). He is more valuable to us as a trade asset than he is on a 6 year, $38M AAV extension (I think that was the deal proposed). I would not be willing to go much further than similar years and a $25-$28M AAV. If you have the money to spend, I think its better payroll allocation to give DeGrom a 3-4 year, $50M AAV after 2022 (assuming a healthy and dominant 2022) than to give Judge a 6 year, $38M AAV (plus you can get good assets for Judge).

This is where the Yankees' brand keeps them from making smart deals sometimes (eg, the late Jeter contracts were clearly not smart from a pure baseball point of view).

So he has a hand in that as well. So I don't really understand the animosity from the former player frankly.

Also, I wonder if he shared this with the Cubs before signing. I mean, if bumping into a wall puts you in a "fighting for [your] life" state, how's that ivy-padded wall in Wrigley gonna work out?
Step back and ask yourself that maybe Frazier is suffering paranoia from that concussion, and then walk back your takes.

        I don't think False1 is being unempathetic.

I agree with False's post that what Frazier ended up saying is far from the anti-Yankee bombshell that he implied he would lay out there. I can't intelligently comment on why this was the case: (a) perhaps it was something concussion/paranoia related as you postulate, (b) perhaps he made a late decision to take the high road, (c) perhaps he just has a seemingly strange (and perhaps very nuanced) take on the situation. Maybe Frazier was trying to explain why he was struggling defensively in the outfield (in which case, his explanation makes a ton of sense).

I feel bad for Frazier. He seems like a good person who has been going through a really difficult and scary time. I hope he can first and foremost live a long and healthy life going forward. Secondly, I hope he can fulfill his potential as a player.

In all this, I think Cashman made a strange statement too saying a few months ago that the Yankees believed that Frazier's issues were in the past and that he was now fully recovered. Based on Cashman's comments, I was surprised the Yankees released him (a healthy Frazier is worth the $2ish million he would have received). Frazier's statements don't sound like he is out of the woods just yet.

Just a bit strange (and very unfortunate) from many angles. Most importantly, I wish Frazier the best from a physical and mental health perspective.

I would be OK riding with Andrus at SS in a deal for Olson/Manaea if it meant giving up less players to take on his contract.

The Rangers are paying 1/2 of Andrus salary in 22 and 23 is an option year if he meets stipulations. His 22 salary if A’s keep him is 7mil from the A’s.
He played in more games in 21 than every Yankee except DJ and Judge. That contract wouldn’t be a reason to give up fewer players/quality players.

Sherman has a write up in the NY Post for some trade ideas involving the Padres and Dbacks.

              Behind a paywall unfortunately.

My take is based on a combination of the fact that I don't see the Yankees trading him, I do see a business decision coming that will have him spend an extended amount of time in pinstripes, so if Judge would take this offer (with slightly lower AAV) I'd rather it come via an extension than via a new contract.

Judge is the face of the franchise and a revenue driver. I'm all for the team making money while they compete. I just want them to reinvest a larger percentage of it back into the product. Pay this man, but stop skimping elsewhere.

LOLEMOJI. While I appreciate your professional armchair diagnosis Dr. Ojo, I'll hard pass on that prescription you've recommended. I had adverse reactions the last time I took clownopinional.

If a simpleton like me could see that he was not the same after colliding into that wall in Spring Training, how did a staff of medical professionals miss it?
It's not like it's the first time their doctors have totally crapped the bed...
The Yankees crack medical staff might have messed up? I am shocked!

Maybe the Yankees crack medical staff is actually the missing ball boys...LOL

Just as an aside on the Frazier thing, doesn't Wrigley now have some padding on the walls underneath the ivy? Hard to imagine the union would be cool with the old-time brick, ivy makes lousy padding.
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up.

I don't know to be honest. You'd think so, given the health/liability risks. Quick google didn't turn up anything definitive for me. But here's the wiki on it:

Following a later change in MLB rules, which requires all outfield walls to be padded, Wrigley Field was grandfathered into the rules, meaning it is the only stadium in the league without padded walls because of the ivy.[39] In 2004, the ivy was specifically included in Wrigley Field's Landmark Designation by the Chicago City Council.[42][b] Although the ivy appears to "pad" the bricks, it is of little practical use in this regard. There have been occasions of fielders being injured when slamming into the wall while pursuing a fly ball.

Either way, my comment was meant to be a sarcastic quip more than anything. I don't like when front office's unnecessarily badmouth players when they move to new teams, and the inverse is true as well. If Frazier has reason to be snide towards the Yankees, let's hear it. Otherwise, take that new uniform you're saw fancy of and take your tweets and move on.

I wasn't commenting on your comment lol, I'm just curious. If Lord Wiki is right, that's really shocking to me. I mean, remember the Yankee rookie whose knee hit the exposed metal apparatus in the White Sox park in his MLB debut -- Billy McKinney I think? -- and sued? What would a modern-day player do if the Wrigley brick cracked his skull?

I guess if the season starts on time I can check, because my memory is that the ivy is pretty scrawny and brown in April. I just don't remember what was underneath it.
