Wow, surprised Garver went so inexpensively. Great deal for Texas.

Twins receive #15 pitching prospect Ronny Henriquez as well.

DeGrom has been VERY healthy since 2017... up until last year. Hopefully not hitting will help his health (that was the unofficial cause of some of his problems last year but it seemed he was in a physical state where something was bothering him and they couldn't figure out what. I'm guessing anything he did would have tweaked something). But he's just weird. He was throwing really hard last year too. I know he was getting ridiculous results (like challenging Bob Gibson's ERA record type results) but it might have been putting too much strain on him. In short. I have no idea what to make of him right now.

The point is that for a team like the Yankees, they have the competitive advantage to absorb those risk. Cashman could operate the Yankees like the Rays and makes you think they look smart but the reality is that they're not utilizing their strength.
It still doesn't change the fact that Correa is a bad player to be making that risky bet on in the first place. Other than "He plays a position they need" there is nothing about him that would make you want to take a mega deal risk on him in particular. His previous health, the position he plays, the amount of production that comes from his defense, and his mental temperament are all red flags. Don't make that bet on people with so many red flags. Wait for a better player to take the risk on.

Besides, the Yankees already have Stanton and Cole. They have those contracts and a few medium term ones like DJLM and need to save room for Judge. Sign a Correa and extend Judge and they have almost no flexibility considering they are going to need to dip under the tax ever few years (like literally every team in baseball).

Baseball is back. Deals being made. Fun to watch. Except of course if your GM is named Cashman. Can't wait for the usual excuses in about two weeks.

That must be what the Yankees think - otherwise they could have non-tendered him and then tried to re-sign at a lower amount (similar to Joely Rodriguez).

No rumors I have seen along these lines but sometimes these things happen out of the blue.
I think the Yankees genuinely believe that they are fine with Sanchez as their starting catcher—or at least that there are no better options available. Obviously I disagree with that assessment but I’ve seen no indication that they are ready to move on from Gary at least for the upcoming season.

If you care so much about red flags then you don't need to save room for Judge. His age, position and injury history make him even more risky for mega deal.

Well, I give you this, it isn't looking good right now. What Cashman and Hal do in the coming two weeks will determine whether I purchase the DirecTV Extra Innings package. If the Yankees are going to be fiscally responsible then their fanbase should do the same.

Are you suggesting that they be fiscally irresponsible and just spend recklessly?

I just woke up from a six-month nap. Cashman is still GM? I was hoping for a miracle.

I don't disagree. I was open to trading Judge at last years deadline but yes, I also wouldn't sign Judge to a 10 year megadeal. I would sign him to a shorter, higher AAV extension.
