It does not stop its like there is a fix in if not for replay it would be worse.
I am not a fan of either team but it sure looks that way so far. But come on, you think MLB cares whether the Sox or Rays get to the next round, LOL

And that's why it's a crapshoot. The better team doesn't always win in a short series. Before the series started the Brewers were 54% favorites to win the series. That's a defintion of a crapshoot. Sometimes, you get a lopsided match ups in the postseason like the Dodgers and Nats in 2019... oh, wait! But for the most part, there isn't a ton of separation between opponents. And with continued playoff expansion, it increases the risk of upsets en route to the fall classic.

Then we're good on that point. So you agree that FO should be harshly criticized for NOT deploying its resources to maximum advantage in terms of revenue reinvested in the system? And that we as fans should thoroughly condemn any "crapshoot" nonsense the FO tries to put out there for the garbage that it is? If so, then the back and forth stuff previously and below confuses me...

But silly one offs happen in nearly every series that is decided by 1 game. I mean if Tony Clark's ball in G5 hits the wall in RF instead of skipping over the lowest RF wall in MLB by inches the Yankees win the 2004 ALCS and we never talk about the 3-0 comeback.

If replay is around in 1996 Jeffery Maier never becomes a household name and the dynasty might not have gotten kicked off.
Nearly every series decided by one game? I think that's a HUGE overstatement.

And sure, you could make these types of arguments... if you're into excuses. You could also make the argument, which is more germane to this particular discussion, that if the 2004 Yankees had a better 1B on the roster than the guy with a 95 OPS+ in the regular season that went 3 for 22 with 10 K's in the 2004 postseason that it might not have come down to that situation at all. That's kind of the whole point of this discussion. Yes, odd things happen like freak plays or David Freese or Madison Bumgarner or whatever. ALL THE MORE REASON to have the best possible roster to reduce the risk of those oddball things being the only thing that separates the team from defeat.

I have no idea what you are going for with this one. The funny thing is if Acuna doesn't get hurt do the Braves make the moves they did that were instrumental in their 2nd half surge?
Where I'm going with this is that - hey - the Braves are on the doorstep of the NLCS without Acuna. Joc Pederson hit a big HR! Does that mean they should trade Acuna and sign Pederson to a long term deal? Of course not. Acuna is the better player and drastically increases their odds of winning materially over Pederson. They shouldn't try to reduce payroll by trading away Acuna and his $15MM and trying to sign Pederson to say a 1/$5MM deal becasue crapshoot.

Oh and I think the Yankees played .630 ball in the 2nd half which translated to a 102 wins over 162, but 1st half games count too.
Funny what a 13 game win streak will do for winning percentage. They then proceeded to go 16-18 immediately thereafter to close out the season. Did you envision them as a .630 winning percentage team as they were backing themselves into the wildcard game?

Olney reporting if Boone is not retained then he’d be a candidate for the parades job - that’s gotta be coming from his agents, maybe they won’t bring him back

Had the Rays been smart they would have let the Yankees beat them twice the last weekend to give the Yankees home field in the WC game. Rays would have probably beat the Yankees a lot easier in the DS.

The rebuilding redsox are going to the ALCS, team reminds me a lot of the 2017 yanks - hopefully they’ll regress as much as we did

At my age, I of course preferred the best team in each of the two leagues that won the most games to play each other in the World Series, which then ended in early October. But then the other owners felt they’d never cash in, so MLB went for the NFL/NBA post-season format. Leagues divided into two divisions, Wild Card teams in each division fought off each other, then fought for the pennant. Four more owners in expanded leagues made money therefore. That scene ended in late October. But since still other owners wanted a piece of the pie, MLB expanded further. Teams with the second best record in the same division played each other once, then played the other winning WC team in the other division. Then that winner won the pennant, and went off to the World Series vs. the team that won in the other league along the same means. Many more owners became happy. They kept making money--players the same. They all got more rich for playing a game that once was a game where simply understood winners took all and were post-season happy. (Please note: Vic Raschi, a great NYY pitcher, ended up a package store owner in the retirement after his great years, so thank you, Marvin Miller--but not quite as much as everyone wants to claim given your Union's aftermath). In any case, now the season ends before, in northernmost states, some slight snows happen in November. It’s all called “progress,” like most things today. But I wonder. Will snowflakes fall in Fenway?

No ghost runner in the post season so i see no reason to bring that awful thing back next year if they play.
