The fact that he got any GM to take Sanchez for anything more than a bag of baseballs itself makes it a good trade.

Losing Sanchez is addition by subtraction. Regardless of the next catchers.

If you hate this trade, head on over to a Twins forum and see what its really like to hate a trade. Imagine finding out that you are getting Sanchez back in a trade, now thats depressing

The Yankees are "in talks" with Oakland for PR purposes only. There is unlikely any seriousness behind it. If there were, it would all be very quiet and happen unexpectedly, like this Minnesota trade.

Cashman will dismiss it later as a potential overpay and unnecessary in the wake of acquiring a former MVP.

The Kiner acquisition is all about providing a placeholder for Volpe. Cashman is gripping tight to him. He's what it will take to get Oakland moving.

Yeah, its pretty clear they're not moving Volpe so an Olson trade seems unlikely, especially given Oakland will likely have either the Dodgers or Atlanta as suitors for him. However, i do think they Yankees need to add a catcher and pitching rotation depth. I suspect Peraza will be in play. Lets hope other teams value him highly. And wouldn't mind moving Torres even though his value is diminished. Im done with him. (Once again I'll go on record saying fredgmuggs has never been a fan of his)
You wanna know what? You gotta problem with Luis Cessa, you gotta problem with me. And I suggest you let that one marinate

No way Yanks keep Donaldson. Certainly he will be flipped for something else. Yanks could shift Falefa to 3B and get another SS.

Right. This was a mistake. I was stunned (upset) because we were paying him like 8M this year. My thought at the time. Our analytics had Sanchez as our starting catcher this year. I couldn't see his trade value unless we package him with a top prospect) How we spend money (on Donaldson) is another issue/problem/question (we don't do good here). I haven't look closer at Donaldson batting numbers (like Rizzo going down) but 2 years 23M each year is the downside so 23M - 8M = 15M for Donaldson is what I see)

The post analytics/Brian thought Sanchez's value was too high as trade. I think it was his last year.

I am actually surprised to see it considering how he talks about Sanchez - it was probably the best trade Brian could do

After having had a chance to sleep on it, I'm feeling a little better about the trade.

                Positives:
                • If/when healthy, Donaldson is a nightmare to pitch to. He's also an upgrade defensively at 3B
                • Falefa seems to have good contact skills which this lineup sorely needs.
                • While statcast doesn't like his defense at SS (-7 at SS last year), Falefa seems to grade out very well with other advanced metrics (10 Rdrs last year). Regardless, he should be an upgrade defensively at SS
                • I know nothing about the catcher we got but yet I'm still positive he will be an upgrade defensively over Gary Sanchez
                Negatives
                • Donaldson has a track record of missing time due to injury. Even if healthy, we're probably going to see a lot of days off or time at DH
                • $25 million AAV is a lot if they are still trying to stay under the LT threshold
                • We're likely getting Donaldson's decline years
                • We're losing some slugging at SS and C
Are the Yankees a better team today then they were two days ago? Probably. But this trade in a vacuum doesn't really move the needle. There's more work to be done.

Donaldson has a ton of opposite field pop. Perfect for AL East ballparks.

Things already back to normal, barely even remember there was a lockout.

Yankees are pessimistic on Freeman, and have said no to the ask of Volpe plus more for Matt Olson. So Anthony Rizzo seems to be the most realistic at 1B for them now. And that’s not so bad.

Torres at 2b, DJLM at 1b. Prove me wrong, Brian.

Except Rizzo won't be allowed to play at Toronto and anyway off what we saw last season looks like he is on the decline. If Freeman was ever a first option (Which I doubt) then getting Donaldson first and taking more money off the table not a great move.

Unfortunately that's what we will see. Except when DJM plays 3B and Voit is at 1B.

I believe they'll re-sign Rizzo and use DJLM as a swing man filling in at 1B, 2b and 3B. And shudder, Torres will get some time (albeit not that much) at SS while predominately playing at 2B. That is, unless Torres completely plays himself off of 2B too, which isn't that much of a stretch.

I'm done with Torres. I hope they'll move him. Like Sanchez, I think he's in dire need of a different organization.
