This quote, to me, says it all: "'He likes [Boone], and I don't think he blames him for what happened,' one source said."

Hal wants to be surrounded by people like Cashman and Boone and doesn't care what the actual outcomes are. If you think Hal will ever fire Cashman, with whom he has a long relationship, if he refuses to part with Boone, I think you will be disappointed.

I am sure once Boone is re-signed, than Cashman will get another 5 year deal...

Boone will be let go when Cashman decides Aaron's shelf life has expired.

It's just a matter of which coaches getting chopped down. I'm going Nevin and hitting coaches.

The whole dual hitting coaches thing was dumb from the start. That doesn't work. There needs to be one clear voice that knows what they are doing. Go poach a mL guy from the Rays. It's not rocket science. Stop promoting morons from within the org. Although Cashman prefers non-opposing thankful voices.

To stop the bleeding, Boston turned to Whitlock. Hernandez said people around the team called Whitlock their secret weapon for most of the season.

"It's not secret anymore," Hernandez said. "Garrett Whitlock is legit. That is an electric arm with three-plus pitches at his age with his experience coming into this year. It's not every day that a Rule 5 pick gets to close out a wild-card game and then wins a game that wins not just a division series, but a playoff series."

Whitlock arrived in Boston as an unheralded Rule 5 draft pick. While most Rule 5 picks fail to make any impact on a team, the Red Sox's front office felt optimistic about the reliever, whom it scooped up from the Yankees organization. After some Boston scouts watched videos on Instagram of Whitlock's offseason bullpen sessions, the team decided to take a chance on the 25-year-old righty.

The gamble paid off, with Whitlock posting a 1.96 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP in 46 games, shaping up to be the best version of the prototypical reliever in the modern game: a versatile pitcher who can come in and be a bullpen Swiss Army knife by throwing multiple innings or closing games and getting hitters out in a variety of ways. Whitlock said a turning point came in Chicago in September, when he gave up a walk-off home run to Leury Garcia.
Sox-Rays series was a superb one to watch. It irritates me that the Sox perhaps are peaking right now and could be positioned to win another WS.

Only benefit could be that Sox winning another would shame Hal to do something other than meet with his accountant quarterly.

The best part about Cashman blaming the frequently injured and under performing players that he drafted, signed, and traded for, is that he'll reassemble the same roster next year and expect different results. It must be great to have that type of job security with no accountability.
I would love to buy advertising space outside of Yankee Stadium and start a “Hal works for Cashman” campaign. Show Hal picking up Cashman’s dry cleaning, getting him coffee. I mean, just utterly turn Hal into a joke.

Then again, Hal is doing a fine job of beclowning himself at this point.

yep, a fish rots from the head. Ownership matters. Look how much better the Hurricanes got when they got Karmanos out of there and Dundon in.

I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up.

For instance, I know the numbers say that a starter going through a lineup for the third time is likely to get in trouble at that point. But likely does not mean "always". If your starter is through 5, has given up 3 runs, and thrown nearly 100 pitches, then I agree that the third time through the lineup is probably going to be bad, and get the relievers in...
But if your starter is at 75 pitches, has mowed down the opposition and given up just 1 hit when the third time comes around, then that is one of those times.. 3rd time, 4th time, 5th time.. I don't care, the guy is unhittable today.. today is the day we don't follow the damned analytics script.

Same with hitters.. they don't believe in "hot" but it does exist.. sometimes guys just feel good about their at bats. You plan to give Judge off in a couple days, ok, that's the plan, and I have no problem having the plan. But if the guy goes 10 for 12 with 4 homers and 2 doubles before that game, I don't care if you wanna DH him or something, the guy clearly sees beach balls coming up there, he has to play unless there is a legit injury. He'll cool off in a few days, then sit him if you want..

And the bullpen is another aspect. They plan out their reliever usage, and again the plan is fine. So let's say your plan is Holmes in the 6th, Loaisiga 7th, Green 8th and Chapman 9th. That "plan" is fine with me, but it must be subject to change. If Holmes comes in and throws 9 pitches in the 6th and no one touches him, he pitches the 7th. Every time you replace a pitcher who is going well with another pitcher, you reduce the odds of winning. The more people you bring in, the higher the liklihood someone is going to "not have it today". If you can mitigate or remove that risk, then you have to do so.

But they don't do any of these things. Their plan is not a plan, its the ten commandments written in stone tablet with blood... That may not be why we did not win the division, although I bet I could argue it, but it is absolutely why that WC game was in Boston instead of NY.. one more win and we play in NY last Tuesday.. and these "plans" cost us at least one game, and likely many more..
I don't see any reason those things couldnt be worked into a more sophisticated analytics model, if they were any good at it. Analytics can include probabilities without thinking of them as certainties.

Instead, their modeling is bad, and then they blame the players their model chose.

Demonstration or any other show of passion is useless at this point. Apathy is our only weapon. Don't buy tickets, don't buy merch, avoid the products hawked on Yankee broadcasts. (Who but W.B. Mason? Anybody.)

Prepare yourself to find some other interests to fill your Yankee time, because this won't be quick.

I don't know what else to feel other than sadness.

There is absolutely no hope existing that things will get better, because ownership doesn't care and the front office is incompetent with a lifetime appointment.

Just awful news regarding Boone. I watched only a fraction of games this season and if Boone returns that number will be much lower. Why bother with a team that puts forth ill-conceived strategies revolving around a flawed roster and prioritizes rest while punting games on a weekly basis?

It appears we are and will be in the wilderness regarding the Yankees, just like every other NY team expect the Islanders.

Basketball is the bright spot, if you can ignore Kyrie and cross your fingers that Dolan continues to allow Rose & Co. to do their jobs.

But, generally, I agree - I can't help but watch the Giants and Yankees fumble around and recognize that the problem starts at the top, with owners sticking with comfort rather than asking hard questions and challenging their organizations.

This is amazing. Boone has underperformed and the Yankees are planning to keep him. This just shows you that this team is not committed to winning. I guess Hall just want their "Yes" men.
