All Hal cares about is being competitive. Not sure he even cares about home playoff games. From 2013-2016 Yankees played exactly 1 home playoff game. In 4 seasons! Did that move Hal to make any changes? No, nothing. So to think anything is ever going to change now is just wishful thinking. Unfortunately.

Voit is what's been bad with this team. Need people who can run and not hit into a DP and not get hurt running to 1B on a WP."Somebody once asked me if I ever went up to the plate trying to hit a home run. I said, 'Sure, every time.'" -- Mickey Mantle

* Trade OF Joey Gallo, P Domingo German and pitching prospect TBD for P German Marquez and C Dom Nunez
Others to be packaged/traded/released:
C Gary Sanchez
2B Gleyber Torres
2B Roughned Odor
OF Miguel Andujar
OF Clint Frazier
OF Brett Gardner
*************************************
2022 Roster
1B - Voit Mitch Moreland
2B - DJ, Wade
SS - Corey Seager, Velazquez,Wade
3B - Urshela, Wade
C - Dom Nunez, Higashioka
CF - Hicks
RF - Judge
LF - Stanton
OF - Florial (4TH)
OF - Allen (5TH)
SP - Cole, Marquez, Severino, Taillon, Montgomery
Relievers(in pecking order) - Chapman, Loaisiga, Green, Holmes, Cortes, King, Luetge, Peralta, Rodriguez
I realize this is 28. The last two spots can/will be manipulated regularly
I dont like Mooreland. He's 37 and just the kind of hitter that comes here to have his performance drop off a cliff.
All of this would require a trade for GM and Owner anyway.
Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? Cashman: Ronald Torreyes. He’s an analytical darling.

They have to figure out what they're doing with DJ. The reality is Torres is not going anywhere in my opinion. He is at a low point in value and you do not trade a guy when his value is this low. And i do not see them trading Gio either. So if you have Torres at 2B and Gio at 3B or SS you have to find a place for DJ. He could save them money and play 1B or SS or even 3RD and move Gio to SS but i see the ING being those 3 guys with someone added to play either 1B or SS and not a lot of money.
They need to invest in SP and add someone who can run and maybe hit leadoff. They need more speed.

It wasn't a fluke year. Voit has a 137OPS+ as a Yankee over nearly 1200 PA going back to 2018. For reference, the year where everyone is claiming Stanton and Judge carried the team, Stanton had a 136 OPS+ this year and Judge was 149. DJL had a 136 in his 2019 season when he batter .327.
He's exactly what the team needs. Great hitters that hit for decent average (.271), get on base (.261), dont strike out a ton (27% of PA), and can hit lefties and righties (his splits are almost identical for LHP vs RHP).
BTW: His BA and OPS are higher with runners on base than without runners on base. His BA and OPS for RISP are even higher than that.
The only chink in his armor is health and defense. He's objectively one of the best hitters in baseball. I'd venture to guess there are probably 30 players that are better hitters over the same time span.
There were 7 players who had an OPS+ above 137 this season- what Voit has done over 3-4 seasons. Vlad, Ohanti, Olson, Judge, Tucker, Lowe and Ramirez. That's where he ranks as a hitter since he's been a Yankee.
We get it. You just dont like Voit. It's You dont like him and you want to pin the problems of this seriously flawed team on him, but I hate to be the bearer of bad news: He's one of the best players on the team and one of the cheapest.Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? When you have a team that has a slightly cracked window, and elite up-the-middle talent is available on the FA market, they shouldn't ignore it because of surprise performances from 5' 11" 20 year olds in Hudson Valley, even ones that generate as much legitimate excitement as Volpe did. You acquire the asset, and if Volpe continues to rake in AA and shows up ready ahead of schedule in 2023 or 2024 you pivot then. Move Seager to 3B or 2B, or move Volpe. Peraza rocketed up the system last year too and there's plenty of reason to be excited for him as well, but his ETA is also 2023 barring any setback.
If the Yankees are comfortable waiting for prospects to develop instead of getting aggressive in FA, I could understand that *if* they committed to a tear-down and rebuild. They really need to go big or start over. The dumbest thing to do - as many here have indicated for several years now - is one foot on the dock and one foot off.

I think they pick up either a scrap heap SS or a scrap heap First Baseman and call the Offense done.
Pitching - Maybe an overpay on an RP or 2.
I don't look for much more than that.

The Yanks can save $6M by dealing Sanchez - that'll more than cover Moreland's salary.Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? Cashman: Ronald Torreyes.
