Kimbrel is not even in the class of Chapman. Heck he was not even a full time closer last year. That would have been a horrid trade to me if we were to do that. This guy is about the best closer in baseball.

I would trade Chapman pretty quickly. Even with sticky stuff his control wasn't good. After that, he's just been throwing heat and praying.
Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? Cashman: Ronald Torreyes. He’s an analytical darling.

I'm not as high on Chapman as you are but do agree that he should be more valuable than Kimbrel. That's why I think the Yankees could have beaten the White Sox offer by offering Chapman.

Pollock has been a 850 to 900 OPS guy in a pitcher's park with 2 years at a $10M AAV (including the option year). Based on say the Castellanos deal, there is real surplus value in Pollock. That's a great deal for a closer with zero to negative surplus value (as Chapman has, in my opinion).

I've been advocating trading Chapman as a salary dump, without understanding that we could get a guy like Pollock for him.

Pollock and Mitch Garver are the two trades this offseason that I most wish we had gotten in on.

Yep. Unless he develops some power or plate discipline he's going to be an empty BA guy in the line up.

I'm just hoping his glove makes up for it until Volpe or Pereza is ready to take over.

The Astros seem to make the good trades and signings. Cole, Brantley, etc. The Yankees don't do that anymore. They are too worried about going above the luxury tax. The reason the Yankees haven't won a world series is because terrible roster construction.
Unless Verlander can swing the bat, I doubt it. The Yankees lost to the Astros because they scored a total of three runs in four games on the road. They literally lost the first two games in Houston by a score of 2-1. The pitching was more than adequate to make it to the WS. They couldn't hit when it mattered most.

This is the most heat I've seen Cashman take in the media. For someone who has survived as long as he has based solely on controlling the media narrative to make a major PR gaffe like this is hopeful. If he starts taking on water, his fragility will cause other outbursts like this and it could force the Yankees to make a move at the end of this season.

Sorry. I doubt it. Hal is probably terrified of trying to hire someone else. Most likely Hal would kick Brian upstairs and let him hire his own replacement. Who would just be a puppet.

Yeah, I hope Ben whatshisname can show us what he's got also. Higgy can't catch every day. I like Brantly though, so I don't mind if Ben is late to The Show.

Love your optimism but Brantley is horrific from what I saw last year. He ain't bonadfde, not by a long shot.

Verlander was 2-0 against the Yankees. He had a .56 era against the Yankees in 16 innings. Two of those games they couldn't hit was because of Verlander

Yeah, even if by some miracle Cashman does get fired, I think it's about a 90% chance that the new GM is a Cashman acolyte from inside the organization, and the same philosophy will continue to lead to the same results. Hal's not going to hire some under-the-radar Chaim Bloom type because how would he know who to hire? He barely knows anything about the sport of baseball, I doubt he has an intimate knowledge of mid-level front office personnel on other teams. Best case is he goes out and gets a GM with a recognizable name and a proven track record like Theo Epstein, but I don't even think Epstein would take the job since he already has a position in the MLB and probably has his sights set on commissioner. Maybe Billy Beane would be tired enough of having to rebuild every other year to take a job here? Wishful thinking anyway, since Cashman's extension this October is as inevitable as the leaves turning brown.

He was 0-1 in the WS with a 3.75 ERA. He also wasn't iron man in 2018 vs Boston, or against Tampa, New York and Washington (he got bombed) in 2019. But yeah, he pitched well against the unclutch Yankees in 2017.
