What a great article about Stanton. Very unique and interesting guy, so respected in the clubhouse, overcome so much after beaning:

But he has hit the ball hard in many of our ST games so far and not least, played very decent defense, i.e., blocked Cashman from his knee-jerk reaction to re-sign Gardner so far, so I'll still give him a pass, My guess is that opposing pitchers fear Gallo enough at least to take care with him, which is to say that they just might let up just a little enough for the following lineup to benefit, I say this with the "maybe" proviso attached, But I do think there'll be times this year when his sheer power will overwhelm us fans as well as other teams."Somebody once asked me if I ever went up to the plate trying to hit a home run. I said, 'Sure, every time.'" -- Mickey Mantle

As the article reads, his indifference to what public opinion says about him is an acquired skill that I hope he teaches to both Joey Gallo & Aaron Judge this season. Add Rizzo and Donaldson to this mix and it's quite a list of proven veteran "leaders" that can lead this team to the offensive production they're quite capable of.
Unlike in 2021, they have to score at least 800 runs this season (lots more doubles please!) and have winning records against the Blue Jays, Rays, and Red Sox if they're going to challenge for the division, IMO."Somebody once asked me if I ever went up to the plate trying to hit a home run. Thanks for posting this. I am finding more and more respect for Mr. Stanton, and if he stays healthy this season I think he's going to put up some HUGE numbers.

Only took the Padres' #13th and #27th ranked prospects, and they don't have a good farm so those rankings are even worse than they sound. I was never in love with the idea of getting Manaea because I figured it'd be an overpay, but we really couldn't have matched that?"I may not have been the greatest Yankee to ever put on the uniform, but I was the proudest." - Billy Martin
