Did Aaron Boone float those rumors about the Padres wanting him?
This is about to be a Jacoby Ellsbury level negotiation by Cash Ninja.
I guess they didn't learn their lesson with Larry? Why would anyone look at any piece of the Yankees management outside of Blake and think "I want me some of that!?"
Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? Cashman: Ronald Torreyes. He’s an analytical darling.
Anthony Volpe. He’s the same age as Wander Franco. He could learn in the big leagues. Like Franco is.
And what if Volpe fails and you blew this opportunity to get some stud SS. Volpe and Peraza still have long ways to go. I would rather sign a SS, and if either Volpe and Peraza succeed, I would worry about it then. That is a good problem to have.
I proposed a trade for one in my post (#686) ^^^^^ using Joey Gallo & Domingo German to obtain P German Marquez and C Dom Nunez from the Rockies
Gallo would be perfect for the Rockies. Every time he makes contact, it would be a HR.
With that said, I doubt they bite on that but I love the deal for the Yankees.

Yes, that's my thinking. He'd hit a lot of HRs there and probably a higher BA. I'd even be willing to sweeten the pot for the Rockies to make this deal. Include Andujar? Schmidt? I don't mind over-paying IF....
It gets the Yanks a solid #2 behind Cole in Marquez, it gets them a replacement for Sanchez, it gets rid of about 350 strikeouts (Gallo and Sanchez), it gets them another lefty bat (in Nunez), it gets them a smaller, more agile catcher .

Don't think they really have long way to go considering that Peraza would likely start his season in AAA and Volpe would start his season in AA next year.
But they should still sign Seager or Correa. It's not like they have a prime A-Rod playing 3B, prime Cano playing 2B and prime Jeter playing SS. They whole infield could have an upgrade.

That doesn't even get you in the ballpark for just Marquez. The Rockies have already said they aren't moving him. His contract is very team friendly with 3 years under 41 million left and the 3rd year is a team option. Rockies should be blowing it up but they just spent 50 mil on a middle of the road starter. Nothing points to them selling off Marquez. Also, Gallo has 1 year left before hitting free agency and has Boras for an agent. His value is significantly less than what we paid for him and certainly won't bring you back a top of the rotation starter even with Domingo German who half the league might not even take because of his domestic violence stuff. Nobody wants those headaches in today's world. See Robeto Osuna no longer having a job and stuck pitching in Mexico once the Astros let him walk.

I meant that they still could still flop. I don't want to put all the eggs in one basket. Sign a stud SS and if these guys develop, then great. A great problem to have. A team with the Yankees resources should be doing stuff like this.

Thanks for your opinion. The Rockies should be trying to plan for the future - these next couple of years, when Marquez is in his prime - they won't be contending. Gallo can really build his value with a big year @ Coors Field. I previously stated it might even be worth sweetening the pot (add Andujar and/or Clark Schmidt). Remember, the NL will probably allow a DH in 2022. So we simply disagree.

Where I tend to find myself with many of your trade proposals over the years is that you attempt to package up what many would say are nonessential pieces for the Yankees for valuable pieces from other teams.
If the Rockies aren't going to attempt to contend, why would they want Gallo - who has one year left before FA and who is coming off an absymal second half with the Yankees as a key piece in a deal? Is your theory that if he goes ham at Coors Field they can flip him at the deadline? Why would they trade pieces with actual and significantly more value now on the hopes that the big piece they get in return might have value as a half-season rental in the future? I like German's stuff, and I get the on-the-field opportunity he may represent, but his value is suppressed due to the off-field baggage as well as missing time due to suspension and now injury. I mean best case, maybe German turns into Marquez?
I know you later added Andujar and Schmidt as sweeteners, but the former is kind of the same deal as Gallo or German in terms of giant question marks and Schmidt (while I hope the Yankees can keep him) does have some promise he also has a poor track record with injuries already. If the Rockies are resigned to a rebuild, they're going to want way different pieces.
