George used to go to the playoff games. Anybody think Hal was at Fenway last night? Buck sort of said that the reason Nevin did not hold up Judge was because he knew Gallo was the next batter. Yea, bat Gallo 4th.

I'd be willing to bet Hal has never been to Fenway.
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up.

Yeah, but who foresaw that batting Gallo 4th would be disastrous? Oh wait, all of us.

I’m not defending Nevin sending him home. But sadly, there was a better chance of Judge scoring on a bad throw than Gallo knocking him in. Two sac flys in 2,400 career ABs, just digest that for a minute.

Well Hal certainly was not sitting next to the dugout like George was for the 78 one game playoff. Hal was probably up in a luxury suite somewhere.

Probably why everyone thought it was extremely stupid to bat Gallo 4th.

If the Yankees approach the off season with the mind set that we’re championship caliber and need to make a few tweaks it will not end well. The nucleus of this team has run its course, they are not championship caliber. They need a major overhaul which will probably require a change in organizational philosophy.
I've said this all season. They were the 4th best team in their own division. Technically they finished a game ahead of Toronto in the standings but they were 8 - 11 against Toronto this season, and more importantly, look at both teams' rosters and tell me which roster you would rather have moving forward? If Cashman doesn't make significant changes to this roster in the offseason (spoiler alert: he won't make significant changes to the roster this offseason), we're looking at the same outcome next year. The ceiling for this team is sneaking in to the Wild Card game.

In year's past, it would take weeks to months to get over a Yankee post-season loss (2001, my young sons were crying after that game and that bitter taste lasted for months).

Now, I just shrug it off and have concluded that with "dividend Hal" and Cashcluelessman in charge, the years of mediocrity will continue.

My older son and his wife came over last night to watch the game and we decided at mid-game to shut it off and watch Gomorrah (btw: it's a superb show) since we knew that this Yankee team had no hope of coming back. The bigger issue for MLB/Hal is that our love of the sport has cooled and that erosion of MLB/Yankee fan base will impair the franchise going forward.

Stay safe everyone until next season and btw....get ready for Hal's and Cashman's usual post-season nonsense and of course by spring training hope will spring eternal again.

Most enraging thing that will happen in the next month? A press conference featuring the monotone Cashman with his “thought we had enough” or “all the guys we need are in the room” poop followed by a lapdog media declaring the fans clamoring for wholesale change to be “reactionary” or “impatient”

AS IF!! It is not impatience to wonder why a guy who has held the job longer than any GM in baseball still has it when he is failing to obtain his own stated goals.
                        Jay Buhner for Ken Phelps!?!?

Preach. I wanted to smack Steve Phillips on MLB Radio this morning when he defended Cashman's record based on making the playoffs almost every season under his tenure, and then called Yankee fans "arrogant" for expecting more than that. No mention of the fact that the Yankees have had the highest payroll in baseball for most of those seasons. No mention of the fact that the organization tells us every year that the goal is to win a world series. How many years without a World Series appearance should pass before we as fans are allowed to express discontent and demand change?

And yeah, I can't wait for the press conference where Cashman blames the failures on injuries to injury prone players that he signed.

And then Hal talks about how he is not rash like his father. Ok, there is rash and then their is just plain disengaged. If you fired Cashman now it would be a move that is glacial.

This history here- Cashman was hired because GS wanted a compliant sock puppet to kick around. Stick Michael and Bob Watson were not obliging in that regard. Example, Bernie Williams got off to a slow start in 1995. George, recently back from suspension and back to his tricks, ordered Stick Michael to trade Bernie. Michael ignored George, lied to him actually telling him nobody wanted him.
To be fair, Cashman (with help from Torre and Stottlemyre) resisted Stein on trading Andy Pettitte to the Phillies in 1999. I don't know that he was chosen so much for sock puppet value as for another bad reason: George thought Watson was an unmotivated, 9 to 5 clock watcher, while Cashman was known for putting in 100 hour weeks. False hustle was always impressive to George.

Until the Yankees press corp and fellow associates decide to put their personal feelings aside and not being part of the marketing team of this franchise, things will never change - no one holds this team or it's ownership accountable for anything.
