No mention of the fact that the Yankees have had the highest payroll in baseball for most of those seasons. No mention of the fact that the organization tells us every year that the goal is to win a world series. How many years without a World Series appearance should pass before we as fans are allowed to express discontent and demand change?

And yeah, I can't wait for the press conference where Cashman blames the failures on injuries to injury prone players that he signed.
Well, I can understand Steve Phillips having an affinity for Cashman, seeing what they have in common. Both became GMs of New York teams in the late 1990s by usurping the jobs of others who did a much better job than they were destined to do. Cashman thrived off the work Gene Michael and Bob Watson did to set him up; the reasonably successful Mets of the 1997-2000 window were really built by Joe McIlvaine before Phillips was able to undermine him and take his job in mid 1997.

Not to mention some personal peccadilloes we'll skip over for now ...

Fakes of a feather flock together, I reckon.

I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up.

        Lifted this from twitter:

The Red Sox have played the Yankees in the postseason nine times since the Dave Roberts stolen base game. They’ve won eight of those games.
        Let's Go Yankees!

It's crazy to think the last time the Yankees beat the Red Sox in a playoff elimination game was off Aaron Boone's bat.

I never thought he was a good fit with Cohen Perhaps Epstein thought the same thing.

I wonder if the Sabermetrics-obsessed Yankees are aware of Gallo's splits batting in the order versus the bottom. Or if they just think where a guy hits doesn't matter (I wouldn't be shocked because it's obvious to me they have no clue about the human element of this game).

Texas knew. Very well. Only they don't have the lineup depth & flexibility the Yankees have.

False hustle was always impressive to George.
It was also Stick who advised him. That’s the way it went with George- “you’re fired!! But can I bring you in as an advisor?” Weird.

Still, but for Stick, there is no Pettitte to trade.

Cashman let Pettite sign with Houston from 2004-2006. Pettite played in the WS in 2005 while Yankees lost in the first round. He’s someone I thought would be a one team player until he wasn’t.

Can't get into it but there was a reason the Yankees did not retain Pettite after 2003 which had to do with a personal problem in Andy's life at the time.

Now, I just shrug it off and have concluded that with "dividend Hal" and Cashcluelessman in charge, the years of mediocrity will continue.

My older son and his wife came over last night to watch the game and we decided at mid-game to shut it off and watch Gomorrah (btw: it's a superb show) since we knew that this Yankee team had no hope of coming back. The bigger issue for MLB/Hal is that our love of the sport has cooled and that erosion of MLB/Yankee fan base will impair the franchise going forward.

Stay safe everyone until next season and btw....get ready for Hal's and Cashman's usual post-season nonsense and of course by spring training hope will spring eternal again.
                          I'm in the same boat.

Even in my adult, supposedly "mature" life, I've been an emotional viewer of all things Yankee. In the past, I wouldn't dare even think of missing a single pitch of playoff action.

But by about May this year, I saw the writing on the wall. It's a talented team that was never going to win it all. Poorly managed, poorly constructed, no discipline or accountability, and worst of all, really not all that fun to watch.

I thought to myself at about 7:45 PM last night how strange I felt. Almost no excitement for a Yankees-Red Sox game. In October. That kind of thing would normally have me bouncing off the walls like a hungry puppy just released from its cage. I felt almost nothing. Almost disinterested. Like watching was an obligation more than a desire. It felt like an exhibition game, because I had no reasonable expectation that if even if they had won, that they would then beat the Rays. It was like a battle of losers. The World Series was never a realistic expectation at any point past April of this year as far as I was concerned. I turned off last night in the 4th to watch Squid Game (another really cool show). It was clearly over. You can see early when this lineup goes into a shell. If the opposing pitcher is throwing strikes and/or the Yanks miss a couple of early mistakes, it's over. Up an down this lineup, we have a disproportionate amount of "mistake hitters". Guys that pile up impressive feats when the pitcher doesn't execute, but struggles mightily when they do. How many times this year do you remember thinking "Wow, what an at bat. The pitcher made his pitch and he still hit it". That's pretty rare for me, especially relative to teams built prior to the promotion of the intern Cashman. I don't expect them to come back from behind ever. You also could see from the first two hitters that Cole didn't have it, even though he retired them. He was missing his spots and got away with a couple of mistakes. Since the hammy injury, he hasn't looked good at all. Last thing I want to do is watch the ingrates that fill Fenway party all night.

This is my only hope left to cling to. That the sentiment I shared about is systemic among the fan base to the point that it begins to affect Hal in the pockets. Only then will be finally see the rightful termination of Brian Cashman. As if what the Rays do on 1/3 of the budget isn't reason enough.

                              Isn't Boone's contract up this year ?
More people have walked on the moon than have scored an earned run off of Mariano Rivera in the postseason.

I was just setting the record straight on the idea that Cashman never opposed The Boss. In the early years he did and that's largely why we ended up with a "Tampa Faction" in the roughly 2001-2005 window. Rather than fire his buddy's kid, Stein just allowed a shadow government of cronies to develop and bend his ear.
