They can acquire both if they choose to.
It shouldn’t be either/or. They need to make substantial changes if they want to keep up. Half-ass efforts aren’t going to cut it anymore.

I think Hal and Cashman realizes they have to make a big splash this offseason as the spotlight has clearly brighten quite a bit regarding their team's regression. I expect them to go after one of the better SS this winter.

Their first reaction to said spotlight was to bring back Aaron Boone for three more years. I don't believe any light penetrates that fortress. We can wishcast all we want but they're going to do what they damn well please, and my guess is that Simmons' likely salary is pleasing to Hal indeed.

How about trading Gleyber for pitching or in a deal for a catcher. Then DJ goes back to 2B, his best position.

I'll say it again for the folks in the back: Simmons is an offensive black hole and would be a waste of money. If they are going for run prevention at the SS position, they could get the same production from Kyle Holder at league minimum salary. Simmons is a black hole offensively.

You believe that, I don't share that view as I never expected Boone to be fired as long as Cashman remained the GM. Boone isn't the problem, the problem is Cashman doing a better job in player acquisitions and roster development.

I can't believe the number of people who don't see this. One of the best things about baseball is the off-season discussions of what we want to happen, who we want to attain, what direction we will go.

Sadly, while that can still be discussed this off-season, they have clearly told us they will do none of it.

As much as I want Cashman gone, I'm not going to accept the "doom and gloom" scenario. If I was going to be that way then I would just stop being a Yankees fan and move onto some other entertaining endeavor that gives me greater pleasure with what little life I still have left in me.

Also, the Yankees haven't told us much except that Aaron Boone is coming back as manager for the next 3-4 years and they need another SS.

Pretty sure the A's would run away screaming from Voit unless they are looking for a DH. A 1b in that ballpark has to be able to scoop bad throws or you are going to be handing out Little League doubles and triples by the boatload.

The Yankees are in money making mode. The traded minor leaguers to get free major leaguers. They had no ball boys down the lines all season. No manual scoreboard operators. They stressed many times that they have THE Process in place and the fans are dumb and they are smart. Read through the Yankees Out Of Play forum where the season ticket holders discuss how poorly they are treated by the Yankees. Customer Service is the worst.
Boone is a puppet. He is there to follow the laws of THE Process. The Process is having a team that hits HRs and strikes out. The whole team. That's what they are directed to do. They are a team with puppet coaches who can't guide players to be better base runners or fielders. In fact, the Yankees clearly don't care about fielding.
I'll be interested in seeing which broadcasters they bring in as the hitting and 2rd base coaches.

I really am in shock that so many people are not connecting the dots.

An overlooked part of this. The coaches were just so bad. Basic things aren't being taught. They fired Nevin because lots of runners got thrown out. They fired the hitting coaches because the hitting was bad.

Who is responsible for making players run the bases better? Who is responsible for hustling on plays? Who is responsible for fielding? Who is responsible for being aggressive? So many basics are lost on Boone, and you just locked him up for another 3 years.
