I KNOW it is not the same thing. But Rodgers of the Jets already had his surgery. They acted quickly.
I’m pretty sure that a number of different doctors reviewed Jasson’s injury and MRI results while Rodgers already knew which doctor was going to operate on him which is the Dodgers and Lakers team doctor. He’s considered one to the best and has operated on Rodgers beforehand with a different injury.

TBH, it’s possible that the doctor operating on Jasson is not even affiliated with the Yankees. Yes, let’s hope so.

Yeah, I mean the Sox were already questioning his decision making process. What would he have had to lose?

If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

Dr Keith Meister. He did Trevor Story’s surgery who returned in 7 months.

What I heard yesterday is Bloom wouldn't pick a lane. He wouldn't make trades unless he felt was clearly on the winning side and not by a little and it was getting old with ownership. The half measures weren't working.

Sounds a bit like Cashman. Maybe Hal is taking notes.

I remember when a lot of posters were upset Boston snagged Bloom but it seems to have not worked for them.

            Tonight...

            No Wells
            No Pereira
No reason to follow this team.

Wells is not going to catch when Cole pitches. Muscle Ben is Cole's catcher. Judge, Florial and Cabrera in the OF. At least not playing Bauers again. Peraza and Volpe are playing. Can't really complain about tonight's lineup.

Am I the only one who thinks Bloom got a bit of a raw deal? I get that he stumbled badly out of the gate with the Betts trade but it seems like they're starting to put some pieces in place. They're set at the infield corners for a long time with Devers and Casas. The Yoshida signing was decent. 26-year-old Jaren Duran put up a 120 OPS+ before getting hurt. I don't know how highly regarded Raffaela is but he's certainly off to a great start. Verdugo is at least a credible bottom third of the order type.

They definitely have a lot of pitching problems, I get that too. But it seems to me that a first time GM ought to at least get a "5 Year Plan" before you drop him. I guess Henry and Warner have gotten so used to winning a World Series every 4 or 5 years that the thought of waiting 7 or 8 was too much for them.
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up.

                    Cole ERA by catcher-
8.31 Higgy (only 3 games but ouch guess being on the same travel ball team no longer counts)
                    2.25 Tervoino
                    2.61 Muscle Ben

If I was chasing my first Cy-young, I might not be too keen on breaking in a rookie catcher either.

Wells got called up 9/1 I believe and has gotten 8 starts so he's still clearly getting the bulk of the starts, just not with Cole on the bump.

If you look at Yankee ERA by (which can be misleading) you get

                    Higgy 88g - 4.46
                    Ben - 28g - 3.01
                    Trevino - 54g - 3.64
                    Wells - 8g 4.06

Looking at Higgy's team high ERA when behind the dish and his 84 OPS+ he might what to have his agent calling around for who needs a BUC next year because it doesn't look like he'll be back with the Yankees.

I really think Trevino and Wells will be the catchers next season. I do wish that Wells would hit a little better and maybe he will in the next two weeks.

There was speculation on the Red Sox radio broadcast the other day that Cora could move to the front office.

But yeah, it seems Bloom could have been given a little more time. But, when there are stories in the press about team execs not understanding/agreeing with his decisions, it can’t be a great environment. Who knows whats going in behind the scenes?

Maybe the spoiled Red Sox fans are putting pressure on them.

I agree with you. Wells has a really small sample so I'm not worried yet. He's hit well at other levels so it's probably an adjustment. I know there was talk of moving him to 1B for his bat but looking at his stats in the minors, I'd think he would need to hit a lot more for his bat to carry 1B, but if does look like he'd project to better than league average 100 OPS+ and if you can do that while not being a defensive liability behind the plate, there is a lot of value in that.

There are currently only 11 MLB catchers who have a wRC+ above 100 and more than 300 PAs this season so if Wells could provide offense at the C position that would be a real plus.

There are 7 catchers with wRC+ of 110 or more. 6 of those 7 teams would be in the playoffs if the season ended today.

You're definitely not the only one. In fact it seems to be the consensus that the Red Sox should have at least given him one more year. They didn't bring him in to re-sign Betts. Dombrowski could have done that. They brought him in to build something more "sustainable" to use their own words. Well, that's kind of what he did, as you noted in your post. They need some pitching but the lineup has some good young cost controlled players to build around.

It seems to me that ownership panicked and caved to the fans who still resent him for trading Betts, which again was not his fault. That was the right thing to do because ownership had no intention of bringing him back after he rejected their $300 million extension offer, and frankly I think he wanted out of Boston.

With Rortvedt as depth in AAA.

It's a shame he didn't do more with the nice string of opportunities he got finally in August. His defense has been as advertised. Obviously our star pitcher loves throwing to him. And he has LH pop, which this team desperately needs. He put up a .286 / .395 / .505 at SWB over ~140 AB and he's still only 25.

I'd love for Wells to seize and thrive in the starting role next year, with Rortvedt eventually nabbing the BUC nudging Trevino out. I like Trevino's defense, but hoping Rortvedt can add some more offense from the left side if he can figure out ML pitching and stay healthy.

I like your idea but aren't Rortvedt and Wells both LH hitting catchers? I mean I guess that's not the end of the world given the dearth of LHH in the lineup but just seems a bit odd.
