Definitely pitched well enough to win.

IMO there was no reason to send Cole out for the 6th - he had 80+ pitches, no consistency with the slider, and I think he was taxed in the 2nd inning. He qualified for the win after 5. I'm sticking with the opinion that this was a bad decision on Boone's part (to go along with two other bad decisions - exhausting his bench in the 9th (what happens if the game goes on for another 4 or 5 innings?) then not having a pinch runner for Judge in the 10th (that's the way to get Judge hurt by aggressively running the bases to tie the game), and not ORDERING Hicks to bunt him to 3rd.
Boone's bench coach (is it Nevin, still?) - is he just a "yes" man? He should be whispering in Boone's ear a la Don Zimmer.
Just venting........."Somebody once asked me if I ever went up to the plate trying to hit a home run. I said, 'Sure, every time.'" -- Mickey Mantle

Was glad to see Cole hit 99. If I remember correctly it took him to about the 5th start before he did that last season....
Still waiting to see the complete dominate Cole. Sometimes I think he screws around trying to nibble to much instead of just trying to put a batter away....In the Land of the Blind. The One Eyed Man is King...…

He was actually fun to watch yesterday, electric in that first inning especially. And while he performed admirably overall, and it's only Opening Day, and his pitch count was getting up there for 4/1... we need him to not hang breaking balls to guys like Hernandez in the middle of the plate too.

For instance, I noticed he'd throw a four-seamer up and in and then pinpoint a slider or another four-seamer down and away (to RH'd batters). He was "painting" the outside of the zone pretty regularly IMO."Somebody once asked me if I ever went up to the plate trying to hit a home run. I said, 'Sure, every time.'" -- Mickey Mantle

nice to have an ACE we can count on. I think he's also relaxing the rest of the team on the days he starts. Man o man if they can come up with two reliable good starters behind him, you'd have to like their chances against most any playoff team's rotation. Thankfully there's probably 5 guys that can potentially fill those two spots. I'm liking the odds of having a pretty good playoff rotation (if health can be assumed)."Somebody once asked me if I ever went up to the plate trying to hit a home run.
