Taillon to the 10-day IL, retroactive to Sep 7, with a right ankle tendon injury.

Sal Romano called up, and Jonathan Davis DFA'ed to make room on the 40-man roster for Romano.

He won AL Pitcher of the Month in July and pitched well with 10 strikeouts in a no decision in tonight's 10-3 win.

Just my $0.02 but I think he's best suited as a spot-starter/long-reliever - similar to Michael King's current role.
I'm optimistic the new pitching coach will get him where he needs to be. It's one thing to "learn" new mechanics. It's another to do it enough to do it well. I would almost treat him as rookie or a second year pitcher in terms of trajectory and expectations (assuming it's true that he rebuilt his mechanics to a large degree). If this was his second MLB season, I'd be pretty pleased and expect good things from him the next season or two.

If he can have a 4.50 ERA in 5 innings per start, he's worth more than that next year, which is his last possible arbitration year. Judge, Sanchez, Urshela, Taillon, Green, Montgomery, and Cessa have their last possible arbitration year next year. That's two starting pitchers, two relievers who can pitch multiple innings, and three hitters who have all been very good at times including our best hitter.
I liked the acquisition - in a vacuum anyway, not necessarily in conjunction with Kulber AND counting on Monty, Sevy, German. The question won't be whether he's worth the low salary. The question will be whether he was worth Roansy Contreras it seems.

I'm thinking that in the immediate future, there's not going to be very many starters that will be allowed to face the lineup for the 3rd time. I'm thinking that at least 3 starters (and maybe more) on each rotation will be 15-18 out guys. #1s and #2s are becoming harder and harder to come by, and multi-inning relievers are becoming more and more valuable.

If Taillon can pretty consistently get 15-18 outs each time out - I'm good with him leading the back part of the rotation.

Sure would like to see this man start realizing he's healthy enough to go all-out for 6 innings every time he starts. Perhaps he's had a problem trusting himself. He needs to stay aggressive every inning. I hope Cole is teaching him that.

Probably not much more than another Taillon.

I would rather they just call up Garcia and let him get his reps in for 2022.
